Chicken Crispy's Top 10 of 2003

1. Cabin Fever

Fierce paced flick with tons of sick of gore, dark humor, and memorable characters make this one the most fun ride of the year. This movie had me saying holy shit more than a few times with its in your face horror and crazy humor (almost in the same vein as Dead Alive).

2. Freddy vs Jason

It was worth the wait, all those years of the revised scripts, the rumored directors, and the delays. The movie gives us the best of both worlds. The atmosphere of a Nightmare flick with all the hack and slash of a Friday film. What more could you ask for?

3. May

The best straight to video horror movie of the year. One of the most unique horror movies in some time. Like its main character, May is a crazy flick filled with awkward situations which lead to some messed up horror. A must see if you haven't seen it.

4. Identity

A really fun whodunit. A great cast featuring Ray Liotta, John Cusack, and Amanda Peet. Identity really plays its cards right and has you guessing the whole time.

5. Final Destination 2

Though lacking the darker atmosphere of the first film, this one gives us all what we really want, the awesome kills. Delivering a great freeway scene for it's opening, that left many afraid of getting in their car and making sure to check for all the signs.

6. 28 Days Later

A cool, unique zombie flick that really does a good job of making you care for its characters. A really unique style, good twists, and lots of blood.

7. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

More of a sequel than a remake. It's the same movie we have seen a bunch of times. Kids get stranded and meet Leatherface, his messed up family, and meet their ultimate fate of death. this one is just more brutal and entertaining than the other sequels, but not as good as the original.

8. Willard

Willard is the poor kid in the back of the class who never talks. He makes friends with some rats and with the help of his furry buddies, gets revenge on all who wronged him

9. Underworld

Cool action scenes, Kate Beckinsale in tight leather, Werewolves Vs Vampires. A very gothic mood, but it feels too much like Blade. When it finished it left me wanting more.

10. Wrong Turn

Wrong Turn has a really raw 70's feel to it. It is not the smartest tool in the shed, but it does not try to be more than it is. Wrong Turn is a fun throwback movie with cool kills but token characters and nothing original as far as plot goes.

Top 3 Disappointments

Top 3 Disappointments

#1: The Order

Heath Ledger stars in this really slow paced film. Although the film kept me interested through the end, it left me feeling empty.

#2: Gothika

Gothika started out really good but went the predictable route. I feel this movie could have been much better. The ending is really disappointing and obvious.

#3: House of The Dead

Opened up 4 spots behind Good Boy its first weekend in release. Skip the movie and play the game. You will have a much better time.

Overall a great year for horror. After seeing all these terrifying flicks, my resoultion will be not to be bite it in 04.
