Craftsman (ATLAS) Metal Lathe


New Craftsman Metal Lathe!
This page is all about the cool 12"x36" Craftsman Metal Lathe (made by Atlas) that I just bought. The model of this lathe is 101.27440. Features include:

  • Timken Bearings (good for long running/high speed)
  • Large 1 1/2" 8 tpi spindle with 25/32" hole allowing 3/4" bar stock
  • MT3 head stock taper
  • MT2 tail stock taper
  • C5511936 110/220V 1/2hp motor
  • Jacob chuck with MT2 mount
  • Milling attachment
  • Grinding attachment
  • 3 Jaw chuck
  • 4 Jaw chuck
  • Faceplate

    Now the bad news...the missing bits and pieces that happens with this type of tool when bought used:

  • Chuck key for the 3 jaw - bought used on eBay November 2003.
  • Live and dead MT2 centres - bought new at Busy Bee Tools in Barrie November 2003
  • Lathe dogs - Busy Bee November 2003
  • Dovetail pins for Milling Attachment - made my own November 2003 on the lathe!
  • Quick Change Tool Post - new from Bower Machinery
  • Collets for headstock - in progress from Plaza Machinery
  • Bankruptcy - in progress from shipping, taxes, duty and brokerage fees :-(
