    William J. Geisheker has been Director of the Marquette University Band for the past 40 years.  He received his B.S. in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1936.  In 1942, he received a M.A. in Sociology and History at Marquette University.  Other Graduate work in choral and instrumental was done at UW-M, Vandercook School of Music in Chicago, Alverno School of Music, Cardinal Stritch College, St. Olaf's Choral School and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.  His teaching career includes the Milwaukee Public School System,  Viola (Wis.) High School, Marquette University High School, Alverno College, Dominican College in Racine and Marquette University.  For several years, while directing the M.U. Band and Chorus, he taught European and American History at M.U. and Ancient and Medieval History at M.U.H.S.  From 1942 to 1956, he directed the M.U. Chorus in performing several operettas over the years and presenting two concerts annually.  

    His vast musical experience outside of the classroom includes over 50 years as a professional musician.  He has played mostly piano - solo and with the finest dance bands; he has also played Baritone and Tuba with numerous marching bands as well as with the Milwaukee Catholic Symphony and the Milwaukee Police Band.  His varied experience has also included organ for church weddings and even calliope with the Circus Band.  He was Choir Director for St. Rose Catholic Church in Milwaukee from 1940 to 1965.  As an organist, he has played many nights at the Milwaukee Arena and Auditorium for M.U. basketball games and graduations as well as for professional basketball and hockey teams including the Bucks, the Hawks, the Admirals and the University of Wisconsin 

    Since the installation of Marquette's 48-bell carillon in 1967, Mr. "G" studied with the last Daniel Robbins of the University of Chicago, with John Harvey of the University of Wisconsin, and, for the past 15 years, has been resident carillonneur on Marquette's campus conducting tours and playing for hundreds of visitors.  

    Honors to Mr. Geisheker include the Hugo Anhalt music award from UW-M in 1964; the "Man of the Year" award in 1969 from the Milwaukee Archdiocesan Catholic Bandmasters; a 30-year plaque from the Marquette Varieties Council; 25-, 30- and 40-year plaques from Marquette University; two personal citations from the Milwaukee Common Council; and an Honorary membership from the American Federations of Musicians.  He is a member of the American Bandmasters' Association, the National College Band Directors' Association, the Wisconsin Bandmasters' Association, the National Catholic Bandmasters' Association and a member of Beta Phi Theta and Phi Beta Mu Music Fraternities.
