A RunsixHISTORY

Once upon a time, there were two boys named Patrick and Brooks. These boys were in a band called 7ate9, but they were not happy in this band. So they got together with a boy named Greg and they decided they'd form a band. So, after a while of talking about making one, they finally got together on a night in late july of 2001 in Kingstowne, VA. They put out some jams, or some wanna be jams and then realized that they needed a name. Some of the candidates included Andrew's Angry Words (inspired by a book greg saw at the library), The Cluck Bucket, Eye of the Beholder, and runsixblank (a name that brooks came up with by putting 3 random words together). They made some phone calls and took a poll of which name the people they called liked best, and as you can see, Andrew's Angry Words won (j/k).

Well, none of these boys played or owned a bass, so they needed a bassist. Brooks knew a guy named John at his church- Bush Hill Presbyterian (the official concert home of R6B)- whom he had gotten to know pretty well. It so happened that this guy not only owned a bass, but played it very well AND was one H-E-L-L of a songwriter. So, he was in. R6B now consited of a bass/lead vox-John, 2 gEEtars- Brooks and Greg, and a guy who liked to hit things with sticks in a rhythmic fashion- Patrick.

August 6th, 2001, the newly formed RunSixBlank met for two hours. John showed the guys a song he had written and they learned it and made up parts for it. So in the first ten minutes they had completed their first song- The Moon That Never Sets. One thing was for sure, R6B's quick pace song creating sure didn't set either, because for the last hour and 50 minutes they practiced their new song and then wrote yet another song- Worth The Wait (back then this song was called "Greatest Pick-up lines- $1", inspired by a sign that a hobo was holding). Then, the very next night they wrote ANOTHER song- Loser. The rest of the practice they called people up and gave them "phone concerts" (don't be offended if you didn't get one, very few people did).

So the school year comes with Brooks and Patrick freshmen and Greg a sophomore at Hayfield High School. Here, Brooks and Patrick would meet Alex and Nicky, who would soon become R6B's groupies. John was the band outcast and went to Edison as a senior. They continued to practice between sports and school. Some of the songs that they made included Circle of Mistrust, Orion's Belt, Alone, Reason My Action, Shamrock, Sometimes Things Just Turn-Out..., Indifference, and I Hope You're Happy (and by Happy I Mean On FIRE). So when would they get the chance to play all these songs?

Well they finally got the chance on February 9th, 2002. Remember that church I mentioned earlier?-Bush Hill Presbyterian? Yup, that would be where their first show would be, and many more to come. Well anyways, Perpetual 6 and Blue Jay Walking opened for them and the show went great for 125 people. Only one church window was broken!

John went on vacation sometime and took this portable recording mechanism and decided to run of a few acoustic songs including Orion's Belt, The Song For Long Goodbyes, and Reason My Action. As well, he recorded drumless versions of worth the wait, the moon that never sets, alone, and sometimes tings just turn-out...; wahoo!

Later on, John got an idea. He thought that if R6B were to have 3 guitarist then they could do a whole lot more with their music, and he had just the guitarist. So Daniel joined the band sometime in April, and what a guitarist he was! They rehearsed and taught him all of the songs, including the newly written- Better Safe Than Sorry- in order to prepare for the show at the church on May 11th. Daniel even wrote a really awesome song himself called Sad Song. Daniel also had to learn all of Greg's parts because Greg was not going to be at the show due to the school play he was in. But since Daniel was a freshman at Edison, John was able to show him stuff after school.

In April, R6B went to B. Midget studios where a guy named Curtis recorded them playing Alone, Worth The Wait, and Sometimes Things Just Turn-Out..., which they would put on a demo disc for their upcoming show (Thanks Emilee!) with a few acoustic songs and junk!

May 11th arrived, and after a lot of work, they were ready. Two awesome bands named Out of LIne and Roadside 45 opened the show. R6B played really well with one downside- Daniel's parents told him he could not be in the band- and so, Daniel was forced to leave the band. R6B was in a sad state, with a show at the spotlight coming up on the 7th of June.

John still wanted a third guitarist, Curtis from B. Midget was his new candidate. Originally Curtis had been into Metal, but after hearing and recording R6B, he began to get into punk/emo. Curtis taught himself all the R6B songs on his guitar, which he is AMAZING at, and at the end of May, was added to the band (Curtis was a senior at Hayfield so once again John was the band's Edison reject).

The spotlight show came and they brought the most fans! But apparently the 3 guitars were a lot of noise. The next week they played a show with Subsist and Temporary Basement out in Arlington where they sold shirts and stickers! That went pretty well, but nothing would be as much fun as what they had next.

That Monday night, June 17th, R6B played at the Jaxx battle of the bands. They didn't win, but it was a lot of fun, for both the guys and the fans (thanks to everyone who went!). Brook's guitar strap broke in the middle of a song because he jumped so he laid on the ground to play Reason My Action. When his solo came, however, no sound was coming out of his guitar! He was just lying there strumming it, so Curtis played the solo for him.

School was out! And R6B wrote two new songs both in the same night on june 27. These new songs were Entropy (which will be featured on R6B's upcoming first CD) and Without a Doubt. But the next day, original member Greg would be forced to leave the band. So it was back to 2 guitars once again, and it was decided that there wouldn't be a third anymore.

Runsixblank had a show on July 20th with Brand New Disaster, Roadside 45 and E.C.P. at the usual place- Bush Hill Presbyterian. The show was amazing, especially E.C.P. who came down from philly to play.

August 6th, 2002- Happy First Birthday R6B! Well, at first there was talk of a full-length coming out of B. Midget Studios from R6B. With the toll of summer and vacation, however, R6B found themselves pressed for time as the school year inched closer. Just as it seemed hopeless in late august, an offer came down through the heavens- I.A.R. studios! John's friend- Josh the sound guy- who in the past provided equipment for the church shows, etc. had told his dad what a great graffiti artist John was. His dad wanted a graffiti logo for the studio so he offered John 16 hours of recording time to do the job. Now, John and patrick had checked out I.A.R. before a while back, and it was NICE! Rich was very highly acclaimed for his musical work and was often consulted by larger companies. He wanted to stay local, however. That's a good thing for us, though! The process for getting the rights to a wall logo takes time, as well as recording, mixing, mastering, and reproduction, so the CD won't be expected until 2003- but it will happen!

September 8th, 2002. Runsixblank returned to Jaxx to play a show with the Turncoats. The turncoats and R6b sold a total of 101 tickets, and the fans went CRAZY! It was amazing and R6B had a great time, thanks to all who went because we wouldn't have been as into it if you guys hadn't been.

So R6B would wait. But come late september brooks and patrick were at their friend, Beth's, volleyball game when Brooks thought of an idea- what if we just made an EP at B. Midget! They discussed it and brought it up with the rest of the gang and decided that Brooks possessed a high-wattage light bulb in his head. They then debated what songs to put on the CD- it went from 3 to 5 to 7 to 6 to 5 to 4 and back to 5. These songs, after a careful process of elimination included: evoL, entropy, june 14th, circle of mistrust, and sometimes things just turn-out.... These songs were recorded until at the last minute- Sometimes things just turn-out... was omitted. However, it was replaced by a very powerful poetic verse by john, which consisted of a very beautiful musical accompanying the moving words of his former engagement. Yes, that's right kids, engagement. So that was released on the 10th of October.

Remember the acoustic song, "The song for long goodbyes"? Well on saturday the 19th of October, R6B made it into an awesome full length song with new parts. They perfected it to play for their show on the 4th of november.

Well, that's the story so far, keep checkin' for this history to be updated with more details on the runsixTALES. Keep it real.
