Experience:
13 years of dance experience
12 years ballet
5 years jazz
7 years tap
I began dancing at the age of five. The first studio that I danced at, I went to for ten years. The studio was owned by a retired professional dancer, and he made up his staff of equally talented dance teachers. There I learned a strong sense of classical ballet, jazz tap, and modern and lyrical jazz. The strong ballet aspect of this school is what made me the strong dancer I am today. I am a firm believer that ballet is the root of all other dance, and this training helped me in picking up jazz and tap later on. Tap was another strong class that I took. I was blessed to have a teacher who was on Broadway before she could read. The retired professional dancers gave a very structured way of learning. Later in that ten years, I began to delve into different types of jazz dance. With a newer, younger teacher, I found newer, younger ideas in dance. I started looking at modern forms of dance. I even began choreographing.
After the studio closed down, I was in limbo for two years, trying to find another dance studio for me. I spent two years at a dance studio with great dancers, but without that strict training that I had become used to. I also began taking ballet classes at another local studio, but soon found that it was not challenging enough. This year, I found the studio that I had been looking for. It had the personality that I wanted, with the right age group, and it is owned by a retired professional dancer. I am very happy with my new dance family, and hope to dance there for years to come.
