Drow Role-Play Guide
By: Keenan M. Leary aka Kha Frostleaf

This article is to help those who have chosen the hard road of being a Drow. From dark broodings of your kin, to the cursed stares of surface dwellers just looking for an excuse to scream "Drow!" Here is your guide to help you live the life, survive the hardship, and make them feel the pain.

Drow Pantheon:

The Drow Pantheon is built off of the shattered remnants of both good and evil fallen deities from the Seldarine (Elven Pantheon). A simple lie led to deception that tore the sky wrought by the gods to pieces. Araushnee, wife to Corellon Larethian, was a power hungry goddess in the second seat of the Pantheon's leadership. She sought a higher seat in the Pantheon, the one her husband held. She bribed Gruumsh, the god of beasts, into killing her lover. This attack utterly failed due to the watchful eyes of Eilistraee, the daughter of Corellon and Araushnee. She quickly returned to the Pantheon halls and warned all of the attack. Eilistraee and her friend Selune got back in time to save the trapped Elven God. Adamant and heart broken, Corellon returns to banish and curse Araushnee. Much to his distaste, their son Vhaeraun defended her, and he later he found out had helped his mother. Vhaeraun followed his mother out of the Pantheon.

Eilistraee, daughter of the couple, pleaded with Corellon to be banished along side with her mother. She in no way wanted to stay with her, she wanted to fight her. Eilistraee took it upon herself to provide the shining light to lead the good hearted away from the dark looming presence that was her mother. Araushnee was dubbed Lloth by Corellon standing for some longtime forgotten curse of the gods. Lloth converted her followers to her new cruel and twisted ways, leading them to start the Elven Wars. Genocide was her goal, genocide and the death of all her obstruct her via for power. Her actions nearly wiped out all the Elven communities, bringing about world wide distaste for the elves of the underdark. These DROW, as they were called, are the accursed race. The only reason some sages believe that the Drow have not overtaken the realms, is because of the twisted, and some say insane, mind of the Lady Lloth.

Followers of Lloth:

Followers of Lloth are the most sinister of the Drow race. With them they carry a vehemence toward elves that has no equal. From birth they are raised to hate all elves, and occasionally participate in surface raids against Elven settlements, leaving nothing but burning buildings and bodies in their wake.

Female RP:
From birth, you were taught superiority over males. Once able to fluently speak, you are placed in charge of the lower males of the house. You spend about fifty years in babysitting duty, causing you to hate your siblings as you would rather spend that time praising to your lady Lloth. A lot of times, you would have sat beside your matron mother of the house (Illharess), to watch and learn how to run the compound. After much hard work with your mother and sisters, and a few beatings given to your brothers, you are sent out on your way to attend the Arach-Tinilith. Here what innocence you have is now lost. Students are introduced to the broodings of Lloth, barraged constantly with her hate and presence of chaos. You learn that females in Lloth's eyes are supreme, and that males lay somewhere in between that of slaves and the matron mothers consort.

As a female Drow, it is best to lead yourself with an undying hatred to all Elven Kind, regardless of race. Males are expendable. Any actions by disrespectful males that go unpunished show signs of weakness, and lead to your quick and merciless death. Be quick to anger, but always be careful. Even the most powerful females in Lloth's favor have fallen to a male because they overlooked them as inferior, and not the deadly warriors their own society created. Before choosing this race, it is best to read fully the history and religion of the Drow race.

You favor torture, fear, and sacrifice, and love weapons that inflict pain. Most preferred is a snake headed whip, a mace, or dagger.

Best played Classes:
Priestess
Cleric

Male RP:
From birth, you were taught inferiority under females. Once able to fluently speak, you are placed under the care of your elder sisters and taught to fear and revere Lloth. This usually inspires anger and hate for your older sisters, but instills a fear to disobey their commands. A lot of time you will spend at the side of the house weapons master, learning the ways of the warrior. After much hard work and beatings at the hand of your teacher, you are sent to compete and learn with the rest of the males at Melee-Magthere, the school of fighters. Here what innocence you have is now lost. You learn that you can only achieve one of a few positions. One place above the slaves, and always below a female. Before choosing this race, it is best to read fully the history and religion of the Drow race.

As a male Drow, it is best to lead yourself with uncanny hatred of all elves. Your desire to please your female leaders is equal to your with the same desire to shove your dagger in their back. You hate females; despise them for the way of being treated, however you have learned it is wise to follower their orders, at least till it no longer suits you. Many males have followed the path of deception and betrayal, but die whimpering at the feet of an angered Drow priestess and her Lloth praised whip of living snakes. Even the most powerful of males reside under the position of a female. You survive mainly because of the fear you instill. Make a female too fearful, and you will not wake up one morning, make her too much at ease, she may one day grow bored of your presence and have you dispatched.

You favor torture, fear, and murder, and love weapons with an edge. Most preferred is a sword of some fashion, hand crossbow, daggers, and little magical treats.

Best played Classes:
Fighter
Wizard
Sorcerer
Thief
Assassin

Followers of Eilistraee:

Followers of Eilistraee are the most misunderstood of the Drow race. With them they carry a compassion toward elves that rivals the hatred that their kind shares. There goal is the reuniting of their fellow priests and priestesses with the Elven Pantheon, and redeeming themselves in the eyes of Corellon. Although Eilistraee and her followers are on the path of the good, entire settlements have been wiped out because of their skin color. Much to the foolishness of the surface dwellers, the colony was their protection from the Drow raids.

RP:
Most likely you where either born into the religion of Eilistraee, then the few followers who have succeeded in shedding the weight of Lloth from their shoulders. You stayed here, or came here, because of the desire to dance under the canopy of trees, basking in the moonlight. You despise everything that is impure in the forest, such as monsters-evil and unnatural.

You favor kindness, compassion and tolerance. You prefer but use only as a last resort a bow, long sword, spear, or quarterstaff.

Fighter
Cleric

Followers of Vhaeraun:

Followers of Vhaeraun are enemies of all, and allies of none. Little is published on this religion, but know this. You choose Vhaeraun; you choose to fight a lonely battle.

*note: Play this religion as if followers of Lloth without the establishments of females over males. This is an equal dominant society.*
