Mission Statement and history

As a group of students in Edinburgh, Scotland, we have to make the most of our free time... as well as making the most of time that really shouldn't be free, but is anyway... if you know what we mean by that!

We started as a group of direction-free individuals standing together in a kitchen. It was at this location that ETAC was born. With reference to the 'Floating Party' (Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) - a party that went on forever. We were becoming a little melancholy at the thought that we will soon be leaving to go our separate ways, and that the 'Party' - seemingly never-ending - would soon come to an end, so ETAC - Edinburgh Trust of Alcohol Connoisseurs, was formed. With yet another reference to popular culture, we turned to Black Adder, and Bob, Short for Kate... only with a C... and backwards. Hence the name. Logical really!

From such humble beginnings, we rose to... less humble, yet still pretty humble heights. We do have a web site, although any commoner can have a web site these days (as we seem to have proved!).

And so the history of our origins has been set out for the world to see.

Another aspect that must also be added is the Star Trek references. We are all, however sad it may seem, Star Trek fans albeit not bad enough to go all over the world dressed as Star Fleet officers! And so our third and final pop-culture reference is explained.

In short we've done nothing original, plundering our knowledge of TV and literature. Maybe even teetering on the edge of legality and copyrighting laws, but it's our own, and it makes us feel part of something a little special. At the end of the day, what else is more special that having a close group of true friends? I'm going to have to stop, this is bringing a [metaphorical] tear to my eye.

Peace.
