Navy Vets Seek Not-for-Profit Status

The Woodstock Navy Vets could soon be a community-owned team.

Bill McLeod has stepped down as team owner, putting the hockey operations into the hands of Jeff Morrison, former GM of the Aylmer Spitfires and St. Thomas Stars.

The process to turn the team into a not-for-profit organization is underway, and Morrison says a Board of Directors will be formed this fall. "It is with the lawyers to get the not-for-profit designation back. We're hoping that process is completed by October 1st. Bill has stepped away from the ownership group as well as the management of the hockey team."

Morrison says that will put the onus on the community to support the Jr. C team.

He says that's the best model in running an OHA B C or D level franchise, as not many teams at that level can draw a profit.

On the ice, the Navy Vets have 15 players signed to play this season. Morrison says it will be a young, emotional and competitive team.
