Justin LaMotte, plantation owner of Resolute in South Carolina, close to Mont Royal. He is married to Madeline Fabray through an
arranged marriage made by her father. Justin is a very demanding husband, with no trust in his wife, and always thinks she
is lying to him. He has a terrible temper, no patience for his slaves....or for his wife. He locks Madeline in a room for weeks
when he spys on her and finds out she was not where she said she was. He then poisons her with a tonic by the doctor, used to
make her more agreeable. When Madelines personal servant and friend, Maum Sally, tries to help Madeline escape, he kills
Maum Sally. In the begining of the Civil War, he is the leader of a Militia group, and when Orry goes off to Richmond, VA, he goes and
kidnaps Madeline and sets one of the plantation buildings on fire. He is then killed by Orry after a fight, and falls out the
second story building, as Orry rescues Madeline. |
