::Christmas Classic::
Columbus, Ohio
President's Cup/Christmas Classic
December 26-29, 2002

Photos & Report: Shelby Russ

Florida boy, Josh Meyers, took home the cup in 2001 for both 13 Expert and 12-13 Cruiser. Maybe Florida riders are getting burnt out, or maybe we decided to "let someone else have the cup." Even still, Meyers took home 2 cups, although not 1st, they're still cups.

Another little Florida ex on top was MCS' Kalin Hall. During one of his class mains, Hall finished 3rd with a popped tire. Kalin has also got a new website underway... You can check it out at www.kalinhall.tk

Ok... here everybody, a non-Floridian... Cesar Bruna, now residing in Texas, was making Juan and Leslie Rocha of Factory CC/Intruder VERY proud. Bruna lost ONE main all weekend (from what I recall). During one of the 13X mains, Cesar hit the gate, went into the 1st turn DEAD LAST and then started making moves non-stop. On the last straight, Bruna was already in 2nd, giving the rider in first a ton of heat. Right when he was going for the win, Cesar hit a roller and had to settle for 2nd (still pretty impressive and still got a standing ovation).

Factory MCS groupie that I am, I normally cover most of their little people on the team. One of these riders that always deserves recognition is Amanda Geving. I'm pretty sure Amanda doubled during the Cup AND both days of the Classic. Trust me... I am not looking forward to the day that little Geving turns 14 so she can beat up on us in Open and Cruiser. Anyway... Amanda ended up playing around in her motos, going for come from behind wins. Although she was a definite 1st place finisher, you can't forget about Madisson Pitts who is well known for giving Geving a run for her money.

A few Miami-ers finally hit the big races with Jessi, the Doans, and myself. One of these families was the McGavocks. You can check out what went on Post-Race on the ::BMXStatz:: Race Journal.

Pro Girls was not only one... but DOMINATED by Factory Redline's Kimbery Hayashi. Kim didn't loose but one race, and only because of a VERY controversial move by Jill Kintner in the last turn during 14 & Over Girls' Open (in which Jill was DQ'ed). A good showing at the Classic is often the start of something B I G (ie: Kyle Bennett's 2001 winning streak began here and led to both a World and National #1 plate). We wish Kimberly the best of luck with the rest of the season, and I'm sure she'll ride equally as impressive for the remainder of the year.
