Jer's Snowmobile Pictures

If you don't know by now, I'm a snowmobiling addict. While everyone else is cooped up during the long winter months, I'm out on the sleds and trails every chance I get, and I usually have a camera or two with me!

Touring Pictures

This section contains pictures taken while out cruising on the sleds during our typical day-long trips. Note: "Brutus" refers to the red Ski-doo, a nickname that totally suits the machine!

Ski-doo Stunts!

When trail riding starts to get boring, it's fun to mix things up a bit and get a little crazy. Note: Unless you are comfortable doing so, do not attempt the style of riding seen here. If it looks dangerous, it probably was a bad idea!

Lifting the skis while I climb a snowbank with the Safari at the cottage.

"Check out my gravel pit..." Also, check out my bowling ball helmet. Very retro.

Here I am doing some grass-draggin' in my backyard last November. We had lots of snow on the ground the next morning, but I couldn't wait that long!

Lookee here, I found me a good jump!

A couple nights before this, I pulled off a 25-foot jump in the same spot, but this day I was taking it easy.

Okay, well maybe not all that easy!

I'm thinking of racing the old Safari in sno-cross next year. What do you think?

I'm going for a little no-footer action here.

Look ma, no feet!

Look ma, no brains! This is what happens when a jump goes wrong. It was a rough landing, but luckily I managed to stay on the machine.

What's your definition of a "ski lift"?

Outta my way!

With all the deep snow, I was able to get in some great powder riding this year.

Waving a ski to the camera.

I couldn't see anything but snow until after I landed!

So this is what it feels like to be a blizzard.

I couldn't see anything but sky until after I landed!

This is what happens when you crest a vertical hill at 80 km/h.

Scott on the Safari, thinking, "What am I getting myself into here?"

...And now trying it again with more speed.

Nordic!

Here are some pictures of my friend Scott's 1972 Ski-doo Nordic 440E (a.k.a. "Big Bird") when we had it out last December. It may be an old sled, but it's still a blast!

Scott navigating through the trees.

High speed Nordic! Scott had the beast going close to 80 km/h on this pass.

Notice how Scott is tucked behind the monster windshield to improve aerodynamics!

Scott lost in the snow dust.

Just after this picture was taken, Scott deployed the parachute and safely slowed to a stop before the road ended!

Scott pushing the limits of 1970's suspension technology.

At this point I am no longer thinking that the Safari is a rough ride!

Here I am attempting deep powder riding techniques in 2 inches of snow on a 1972 Ski-doo. Notice my boots dragging in the snow. They're wider than the running boards!

I gave my arms a good workout that day. This machine is a tank!
