Ed was given the derogatory nickname "Evil", because of his strangeness and morbid sense of humor.
It is a nomenclature which he hates.
He is resentful of Amy Peterson, Charley's girlfriend for coming between their friendship.
When gruesome Murders begin to occur in Rancho Corvalis, Ed is loving it.
Charley starts telling everyone that his neighbor is responsible for the murders and is a vampire.
"Evil" Ed refuses to believe Charley, along with everyone else.
"Take my hand, Ed...take my hand!"
Ed and Amy recruit Peter Vincent to fake a vampire test on Dandridge to prove to Charley that he's not an undead monster...it works, but Vincent learns that Charley's neighbor really is a vampire.
Dandridge decides to get rid of these potential hazards to his existance.
Forced into the choice of un-life as a vampire by Jerry Dandridge, Ed must follow his new master's orders without question.
He has become that which he loves most...a monster.

He is ordered by Dandridge to kill Peter Vincent.
Ed once idolized Vincent, but now realizes the aging thespian is a fraud.
Peter brands the young vampire with a cross and Ed flees in pain.
Dandridge gives Ed a chance to redeem himself and he is sent to deal with Charley's mother, Judy.
She is not home, so Ed waits and is found by Peter Vincent.
Trying to kill Peter, Ed is staked with a table leg and dies.
However, Peter should have remembered not to remove a stake from a dead vampire.
Ed soon rises from his grave, his final fate is unwritten.
