This is the story of Tarzan's return to the life and ways of the ape-man in his search for vengeance on those who took from him his beloved wife and despoiled the home which he had made in British East Africa. He finds them, but the result makes only the beginning of the story which carries him swiftly through a series of the most amazing complications to a still more amazing climax.

A WORD ABOUT TARZAN THE UNTAMED: The First Edition text of this book contains two novels: "Tarzan the Untamed" and "Tarzan and the Valley of Luna". When the first novel was written, Burroughs killed off Tarzan's wife, Jane. It is my belief that Burroughs' intended to give Tarzan a new mate. However, after publication, there was an uproar over the death of Jane. So, when Burroughs wrote "Tarzan and the Valley of Luna", he included the reunion of Jane and Tarzan. Then, when the hardcover book was to come out with both novels contained in it, Burroughs slightly rewrote "Tarzan the Untamed" to remove Jane's death and only made it appeared that she had been killed.

Many years later, when Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer killed off Jane in "Tarzan Finds a Son" (later changed, of course), the studio had already written the scripts for the following films which included the burial of Jane ("Tarzan No. 4" aka "Tarzan and America's Number One Glamour Girl"--the glamour girl turns out to be a mighty hunter who kills a lion face to face) and Tarzan's adventures with new female leads.
