--> Gallery: Ekaterina Gamova
The one and only time that I saw Ekaterina Gamova play was on television on WTSN in August 2003 at home in Canada. It was the Montreux Volley Masters and Team Russia was playing against Team Japan in a group-stage match. The most recognizable player in the Russian women's team was the tall #11 who's name, Gamova, was often called by the excitable announcer. As I watched more and more, I was drawn more and more by the match and the players. Especially, by Gamova, who seemed to be a really good player. No, she was in fact, a great player with a massive block, great power attacks, a good serve, and seemed to be a leader on the veteran team even though she looked quite young and fresh. I was very intrigued by this talented young lady and she stayed in my mind for quite a while. I went on the internet to search for her and found these images. Looking at these pictures of Ekaterina Gamova, you can see the warmth and delight in her personality- the playfulness and careful attitude, yet with a genious gift and gracefulness. She is now, without a doubt, my absolute favourite athlete!
