From the Hearts of Parents

Common Emotions Faced by Parents
  • Frustration
  • Loneliness
  • Overwhelmed

For the first 1 1/2 years after my daughter was diagnosed with CAPD, I felt very alone. During that time I never had the opportunity to talk to another parent of a child with CAPD.

Sunday, July 25,1999 is a day I will always remember. It is the first time I had the opportunity to talk to other parents facing this same challenge. I talked to these parents in a chat room on the web hosted by www.fastforword.com. I sat at the computer that night and cried. They were tears of frustration...but yet tears of joy. That night I realized I was not alone and now I finally had someone to talk to who understood.

The following stories are from the hearts of other parents who have faced the many challenges of CAPD. Each of us is at a different stage in our journey, but by sharing out stories we may be able help one other person face the frustations associated with CAPD. May these stories give you some comfort and encouragement.

Please keep in mind as you read these stories that they are written from the hearts of parents who wanted to share their struggles with CAPD with you. The following stories may be in story form or in the form of a letter, but no matter what style, I'm sure they'll touch a spot in your heart. A special thank you goes out to each parent who took the time to put into words their feelings and experiences.

If you would like to share your story with others or know anyone else who would, please contact me at the email address below. I'd love to add your story to this site. Just be sure to let me know if you want your e-mail address included with your story.
