Welcome to the page that is dedicated to Godzilla's Greatest Challenger!
KING GHIDORAH
Regardless of whether Godzilla was a good guy or a bad guy, King Ghidorah was there to fight him at every turn.
Ghidorah made his film debut in 1964 in "Ghidrah, The Three Headed Monster". In this film, it took the combined might of Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan to defeat him. This was a turning point for Godzilla as it saw his change from bad to good.
Undaunted by this beating, King Ghidorah returned a year later in "Godzilla vs Monster Zero". Here it only took some help from Rodan for Godzilla to send the King packing.
Taking a break for three years, King Ghidorah reared his heads again in the 1968 classic, "Destroy All Monsters!" However, this time, it took Godzilla and several of his monster friends to dispose of the Golden Titan.
Returning in 1972, with his partner, Gigan, King Ghidorah takes on the team of Godzilla and Anguillas in "Godzilla vs. Gigan". After a heated battle, the space monsters are vanquished by Earth's sworn defenders. Rumor has it, that if Gigan had not let his guard down and squabbled with King Ghidorah, they might have been victorious. Thus, the King suffers yet another lose due to the incompetence of the cyborg-monster.
Although he never won a battle with Godzilla, (he did battle him to a draw once), King Ghidorah has kept coming back for more.
The King |
While away from the silver screen for almost 20 years, King Ghidorah made a couple of appearances in Toho's TV series, "Zone Fighter" during the late seventies. The King suffered two more losses at the hands of this Ultraman wannabe.
In 1991, King Ghidorah returned as a force to reckon with in the long-awaited "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah". King Ghidorah had a few new moves in store for his rematch with Godzilla. One was to use his wings as a shield to block Godzilla's Breath Weapon. Another interesting move was to wrap his center neck around Godzilla's throat and choke him. But, the choke hold failed to stop Godzilla and Ghidorah paid dearly by having his middle head blown completely off. However, with the help of some people from Earth's future and a few cybernetic implants, our Hero was reborn as Mecha-King Ghidorah, a solar-powered, armored fighting cyborg-monster. This new form, along with its cyborg technology, finally gave Ghidorah the edge he needed to finally battle Godzilla to a draw.
