ABOUT THE YAMAHA V-TWIN

Begining in 1981 Yamaha built its First V twin,it was called the Virago and had a Chain Drive, Also known as the Euro Virago ,then they Built the Vision 550 with shaft drive,,Whats really noticable ,is that the first Viragos / Visions were ugly bikes and yet they had an unique styling.

Begining in 1984 Yamaha Revamped the Styling of the Virago to a much more pleasing Style, not a Harley Copy like the other Japanese Manufactures,They hold a timeless style all of their own,,and the V twin engine has undergone many improvements, such as a bendex on the starter drive, better carburators and other improvements over time.

The Yamaha V-Twin has unbeliveable reliablity and Great Power for a V twin,I have never heard of a Shaft drive on a Yamaha ever giving problems and it is much more reliable than any chain or belt driven machine I have ever seen on the road.

The Year 1999 Marks the Last Year of the Virago being Manufactured by Yamaha, its replacement is the Yamaha V-Star,It still holds an unique styling all its own and seems to be a wonderfull replacement for the Vulnerable Yamaha V twin that has Been around for the past 18 years and is still going strong !

I personaly own a 1985 Yamaha Virago 1000 with 62,000 miles on the Clock and it has been a great bike with a minimum of problems,,only things that I have had to replace is tires ,brakes , a starter clutch , and a fuel pump glitch, and of course spark plugs and regular oil changes, and at 62,000 miles,,it does not use a drop of oil or leak anything at all from the crankcase or carburators and has excellent Torque.
