Faith
Half heartedly she said her prayers
left out honesty and religious airs
said the same thing everynight
the words she said were always right
she told her god she was going to sleep
asked him for her soul to keep
and if she chanced to die before she waked
she begged her god her soul to take
she crawled into bed and closed her eyes
not wondering if angels were only lies
not wondering if her god had a face truly kind
nor what after death she would some day find
Later that night, a blood vessel burst
out of all they had hoped for, this was the worst
her soul was prepared for a god that was kind
not at all ready for the deity she would find
out of earths atmosphere and into deep space
she wondered when she'd reach the heavenly place
until she reached a bright glowing ball
"this doesnt look like heaven at all."
was all she could say before she saw
the empty eye sockets, the bare white jaw
she saw the skull face of the god in the sun
religion was suddenly no longer fun
the cold bony face she saw in the glare
affixed her eyes with a most angry stare
An angry scornful laugh boomed from the god
the girl was utterly stunned and awed
as his regally cruel voice gravelly spoke
something deep inside the girl woke
"you among others have failed my orders,
i command you to take over others borders
you just sit there spreading peace god and love
hoping for your god to come from above"
she trembled at his words and realized he was right
at all of her errors she now had a sight
"by being a lamb from my course you did falter
now you shall burn upon an alter
to pay for the chaos you didnt make
believing in your god was a big mistake"
At his words she was frozen, stuck tight with fear
not wanting to believe the words she did hear
Suddenly she found herself on four cloven feet
finding herself an actual lamb, she gave a bleat
A wave of fear covered her face
as she looked and saw flames all over the place
an alter below and flames all around
the crackling made a most horrid sound
and here was where she would spend forever
an attempt to repay the religion she did sever
away she had gone and chose a different path
not once thinking to do the math
a short life she had its true
i just hope it wont happen to you
be careful the path you choose for yourself
you might pick the wrong jar from the right shelf
then you too will be lost in the flames
carefully judge your life, your aims
and if you agree with them all
then into the fire your soul will not fall
for if you look close and deep
youll find your god is with you in sleep
when youre awake and not paying attention
your god is there without much contemption
whatever you call god, whatever you believe
make sure its yourself you do not deceive.
