Custom Fabricated Front Strut Tower Bar

That's right. Custom made for my car, by me.

I started with some 3/8" steel plate and 7/8" aluminum bar. The bar was made on a lathe and the endplates were made on a mill. The end bolts that I fastened the bar with were basically 10mm bolts with the heads cut off and some stainless rings welded on the end. The thing I like about my design is that the bar runs straight across the engine bay at the lowest height possible. It had to be routed under some of the hoses, but I think it makes for a more rigid design. When the bar is raised above the strut tower too far it results in a bow effect under pressure, allowing the body to continue to flex.

The color didn't come out too well in these pictures but the plates are this obnoxious lime green. I like it a lot, but I think I am alone.

The bar stiffened up the chassis resulting in some increased steering response, but the big changes really came from the installation of the rear bar.

In the near future I am going to revamp the setup to use aluminum tube instead of solid stock to save on weight.
