Rhyncholaelia glauca

Syn. Brassavola glauca
Origin Guatemala, Mexico.
Plant description The plant is short, stout and tough, with papery bracts over the rhizomes and speudobubs base. The plant is not growing straight up like the Rhynch. digbyana, but creeping like growing habit, and plant can reach up to 20 cm (I think it's an error in Dr. Withner's book stating 30 cm, that would be as tall or taller than Rhynch. digbyana!). This species produces single flower.
Growing Don't have much data on its nature growing conditions, but to me, they grow very much like the Rhynch. digbyana, my plants do better in pot than mounted.
Blooming Season All my plants bloom the winter months (Full bloom in February).
Flower size and shape Flower can reach up to 11 cm natural spread. The sepals and petals may reach up to 6.5 cm in length with the petals a little shorter.
Colors and fragrance The sepals and petals are apple green, very sweet fragrance at night, and lip is white, may have a flush of green on the disc, bleaching out toward the scalloped edge. On the midrib of the lip under the column, there is a maroon or reddish marking, or sometimes veining. A few clones will have no marking, make then an "alba" lip variety.
Comments In my opinion, this species grows slow, but steady. I also think the small plant/division is very difficult to establish. I had a few small divisions before, none made it. I recently acquired a few large plants, they all grow flower well.

Rhynch. glauca alba form - A "rarer" typical fair form of this spcies. Flowers are large for the plant's size. Wonderful fragrance at night.
