Brassavola nodosa

Syn. B. gillettei
Origin Mexico and Central America, Columbia, Venezuela
Plant description The upright leaves are 8-15 cm long, with secondary stem of 3-5 cm, and growth that produce 2-4 flowers. Lip is about 3 cm long, 2-3 cm wide.
Growing Said that the species originally came from the state of Goias, which runs north and south to the west of Brasilia, record also shows the species exists in Para, which is farther west and north.
Blooming Season No textbook data. Most of mine are blooming in the summer. Larger specimen can bloom all year round.
Flower size and shape The petals and sepals run to 7 cm long. Lip is about 3 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, water drop shape.
Colors and fragrance The flowers are vary in green-yellow color, lip is white. Fragrant at night. Ironically for my nodosas, the larger the flower, the lesser fragrance.
Comments I have a few specimen from different origins, and some of them grow vine-like.

B. nodosa (Berlize) B. nodosa "Minnie Mouse"

B. nodosa "Mas Mejor" AM/AOS, large flower with narrow but nice lip

B. nodosa ("Susan Fuchs" FCC/AOS x "Largo"), large flower with large round curved lip, somewhat droopy

B. nodosa (Alice Weaver's strain), large flower with large round lip

B. nodosa "Decimal" - My clone of the dwarf type nodosa, similar to the "Minnie Mouse above, but this plant is noticeable smaller. The 3-4 inches flowers appear giant compared to the plant size. A novalty!

B. nodosa (Guatemala) - The largest nodosa flowers variety I have seen. The flower is 7 1/2 inches accross, little droopy, lip is pointed and curved down. The speudobulbs reach 7 inches or so at the max, have thich leaves about half inch wide with a V shape channel. Very impressive when in bloom!

B. nodosa "Largo" - Medium size nodosa, very nice shape. The picture is the plant's first bloom under my condition. This variety is a long time favorite for many!
