I started to write this portion of the web page quite some time ago. I did not know that by the time I was going to finish it, the railroad would be only a shadow of what it used to be. After the loss of the coal contract in January 1999 and the closing of the paper mill in Port St Joe, a major portion of the employees lost their jobs. The coal contract had been a major source of revenue for a long time. The paper mill, the other major money maker, had been running on and off for a couple of years. This is now all gone too. They are now running only 2-4 trains a week down from approximately 12. How long can a railroad last with so little revenue?
