CSX Tallahassee Subdivision Today

Jacksonville; Beaver St Tower. February 1999.
One of the railroad structures that did not not make it to the National Register of  Historical Sites, but should have, was leveled in September 1999 to make room for more tracks under the already crowded underpass of the Beaver St bridge.


 Jacksonville to River Junction is now operated by CSX.

Jacksonville: Beaver St Tower; leveled in September 1999.
Baldwin Junction: operated by CSX. The switch tower at the diamond is now abandoned but still standing. Photo coming soon... I hope.
Live Oak: The first railroad line across the Georgia-Florida border from Live Oak to Dupont is now gone. The grading still can be seen in some places.
Montecillo Branch: track was pulled and the depot in Montecillo leveled. The junction at Drifton still has traces of tracks from the Branch. It also has traces of the junction with the ACL line from Tampa to Albany.
Lloyd: depot is still standing.
Tallahassee: P&G RR and SAL depots are still standing and in very good condition.
    -Tallahassee Southeastern Ry: Tallahassee to Perry was abandoned, and the track was pulled.
    -Tallahassee RR was transformed into a bicycle trail. A piece of track from a spur remains in St Marks.
    -GF&A RR:
            Carabelle to Tallahassee was abandoned, and the track pulled. Today the grading can still be observed by following Spring Hill Rd South of the Tallahassee airport.
            Tallahassee to Bainbridge is operated by CSX.
            North of Bainbridge, the line is operated by Georgia & Southwestern.
            Havana-Quincy line was abandoned. A street in Quincy is named after the GF&A and crosses US 90 at the bottom of the hill on the East side of town.
Chattahoochee: River Junction has its yard office still standing
 

    Only a handful of caboose displays remain. (Chattahoochee and Tallahassee)

Live Oak: two depots remain in Live Oak one from ACL and one from SAL.
The ACL depot hosts a museum about the Suwannee River.




Live Oak: the SAL depot is being very slowly worked on.



Tallahassee: the Pensacola & Georgia RR depot was built in 1855.
Believed to be the oldest remaining depot in Florida.Today, the west side hosts Amtrak. The center part was renovated in 1999, and was reopened in early 2000.
The 2 story wing addition, which was built at a later date, was renovated earlier by the city and host a couple of non-profit organizations


Tallahassee: the SAL passenger depot built in the first decade of the 1900s is still standing and is used by CSX maintenance.


Lloyd: the next oldest remaining depot in Florida was built in 1856.
The depot hosts the local US Post Office on one side of the building. The other side is being renovated by the Gulf Wind Chapter of NHRS.



River Junction yard, where the L&N, ACL and SAL used to meet, now all 3 under CSX, still has its yard office.
Today, the "Panhandlers" handles the traffic exchange with Appalachicola Northern, which fell to an all-time low over the past couple of years.
