#14 Dianne Alagich D

2001: Obtained as a foreign discovery player 29 May to fill the slot vacated by the waiving of Canadian M Amy Walsh. The CyberRays' original plan to bring in Danish D Lene Terp was abandoned because of visa red tape. At the suggestion of assistant coach Tom Sermanni, who previously coached the Australian national team, the CyberRays switched to Aussie international Dianne Alagich. Her arrival solidified the CyberRays' back line and allowed the team to move from a 3-5-2 formation used early in the season to a 4-3-3. Once she cracked the starting lineup (6/24 @ San Diego), Alagich started six consecutive games and played every minute of each while the CyberRays ran off a 4-0-2 record. Her season ended 7/24, the day before a home loss to the San Diego Spirit, when she tore the ACL in her right knee at practice. Surgery to repair the injury was successful and Alagich is expected to reclaim a starting position.

Previous experience: Alagich played for the Australian national team since she was 16 years old when she played in the U.S. Women's Cup. She played all 270 minutes of Australia's three games in the 1999 Women's World Cup and every minute of her team's three Olympic matches at the 2000 Sydney Games. Alagich also was a competitive international kayaker and competed for Australia in the 1996 Junior World Cup.

Brother Richie plays for South Melbourne in Australia's national soccer league and played for the national under-20 team. Brother Chris competed in the junior world kayaking championships in 1994.
