#3 Lisa Naņez

2001: Lisa Naņez was a versatile defender for the CyberRays, playing both left back and central defender in 12 starts. She occasionally played as a midfielder. Two of her fouls resulted in penalty kicks, but the opposition did not convert. Against the New York Power on 6/10, Tiffeny Milbrett's PK was saved. Against the Carolina Courage on 7/29, Danielle Fotopoulos' shot hit the crossbar. Naņez blocked three shots, tying her with teammate Kelly Lindsey and six other players for most in the league.

Previous experience: Naņez is a veteran of the Mexican national team and played in the 1999 Women's World Cup. However, as a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico, she does not count against the league limit of four foreign players per team. As a Santa Clara player, Naņez was a member of teams that went to the NCAA final four every year she played. She was the Broncos' defensive player of the year in 1997 and 1998, and she was second team all-West Coast Conference in 1998 and 1999. Like CyberRays teammate Kim Clark, she played for the DeAnza Magic, which won the national under-17 championship in 1994.

Personal: Lisa Anne Naņez. Born in Santa Clara, Calif. Father Tony is a salesman; mother Linda is an elementary school teacher. Graduated from Santa Clara in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
