This game started out as something of a joke when I first made it, but gradually over time I've added to it and made this still-fairly-horrible little game. I hope someone enjoys it.

In the game, you play as Burt Gummer, using different weapons and battling Graboids, Shriekers, Assblasters, and a few Mixedmaster-affected monsters from Tremors: The Series. At the beginning of a stage there's an explanation screen about the monster of the level and about what weapons must be used to defeat them. It's fairly simple and likely won't take more than an hour or so to play through completely.

To start the game, you just pick a level on the level selection screen and press enter. The levels are played in a kind of overhead view, much like the Legend of Zelda games or something of that sort. You control Burt, and usually have two abilities, respectively used by pressing fire 1 (by default, "space") and fire 2 ("shift" by default). Other information is displayed on the screen; the green bars in the upper left are Burt's extra lives, and the upper right is Burt's score. The display usually shown to the bottom right changes depending on the level, but it's usually Burt's ammo (assuming he has a gun); the same sort of thing goes for the left. Usually it should be easy to figure out what they're for by context, though.

As for any questionable content in the game... I know it's not really neccesary and that to many people this looks kind of odd of me to mention, but given that Tremors seems to have a lot of younger fans, I figured it couldn't hurt. The only things you really need to watch out for are "violence" and "gore"; The fakey-Burt shoots little black dots at things and it makes a gun noise, and when the monsters get him, you see them eating him (I kinda got carried away with the nature of Tremors: The Series, though; mostly you only see part of Burt when he's getting eaten, like the legs, and there are some horribly fake shades of red used. It's meant to look ridiculous, but some people might be concerned about such things). Generally, if you're okay watching the television series, you won't see anything worse (or as bad) in this game, so you should be fine. I should warn that this game is not good for those with epilepsy, however, as explosions and fire in this game blink very rapidly and might cause people with such problems to have seizures.

The graphics are intentionally very simple. When I first made the original joke game (which had only Burt fighting Graboids, with even worse graphics, and a nearly blank playing field), I didn't spend a lot of time working on it, so I got the idea to just throw together some Atari 2600/Coleco Vision-esque graphics. The result was a terribly deformed Burt and a Graboid that was pretty much a rectangle with four orange things sticking off. As I've worked on the game I've improved the graphics somewhat, but they're still pretty simple and NES-ish.

The sound isn't all that much much either- (mostly) pretty nice NES game MIDIs (made by other people, listed in the credits) and a few WAV files I managed to find for sound effects (and yes, the Graboid/Shrieker noises aren't really from any of the movies; I couldn't find WAVs of those, so I kinda improvised).

As for system requirements, the .ZIP file containing the setup files is about 3.00 MB, and the game is about 5.50 MB when installed. It should work in Windows 98 or Windows XP - I haven't tried any other OS. 16, 24, or 32 bit color is recommended, but I don't know if it's neccesary.

Tremors, Burt Gummer, Graboids, and all related characters are the property and inventions of Stampede Entertainment, a division of Universal Studios. I recognize this fully and do not wish to violate any of their copyrights. So far as I know, I haven't, because this game is strictly freeware, and none of the graphics or sounds are directly copied from their movies/television series; I *think* this makes the legality somewhat like that of fanfiction or similar such things. I could be mistaken, and if Stampede Entertainment requests that I take it down, I will. Hopefully this won't be neccesary, however; the game is meant only to be enjoyed by fans, for fun. I stress the point that this game is not to be sold under any circumstances. If there were any attempts to do so, it would not be by me and I do not approve.

Anyway, I hope the game proves fun for those interested in such things... I know the quality of the gameplay are graphics is overall fairly poor, and I apologize for that. Hopefully someone will have fun with it anyway.

Download

To Install: download the zip file and open it with Winzip or another program capable of opening such archives. Three files should be extracted; open Setup.exe, and go through the process. Once it finishes, you have to open the folder you installed it to yourself- for some strange reason Click and Create makes these start menu folders, but they often don't list any shortcuts to the program, so when the installation finishes, it opens an empty folder. *shrug* Anyway, once you've done that, you should be able to find and open "Tremors - Burt Gummer Monster Hunter.exe", recognizable by the horrid 16-colors icon. Have fun!
