Dog poo dog poo smelly smelly dog poo... drop Dead Fred is a childhood classic. Which is funny, because it's supposed to be an adults only movie... admittedly, i get a few more of the jokes now than i did when i was 7, but who wouldn't love a red-haired-green-suited invisible friend? Especially when it's Rik Mayall (Young Ones)!
This is a brilliant movie. It has a plotline, good characters, funny jokes... all the things missing in most other movies.
The basic story is that lizzie loses her husband. She's very depressed, and suddenly remembers the invisible friend she had when she was 6, Drop Dead Fred. Her evil megabitch overprotective mother brings her home, where she finds the jack in the box her mother trapped Fred in 21 years earlier... and he is let loose. and until she's happy again, he can't leave.
Hilarity ensues as the slightly misguided Fred, who is still very much a 6-year-old's invisible friend (though a mature one at that), attempts to 'help' Lizzie be happy, and do whatever she thinks will make her happy - namely get back her lying, cheating, sleazy husband. Of course, Fred helps her actually be happy... and would we all love Rik Mayall just hangin around to make us happy? I think i can hear a resounding 'Hell Yeah!' coming from the crowd. *^_^*
A movie you can watch with a kid, as long as you hide the good china and anything permanantly marking afterwards, because they'll undoubtably want to play some of Fred's games... mmm mud pie.
