JD Dunne sat at his desk looking at the computer but not really seeing the report he was suppossed to be typing. It had been three weeks since he had written his...well...Aaron Bishop....that letter. Now he wondered if he made the correct choice. There were a lot of questions he needed answers to. Why had Aaron left him and his mother? Had he not wanted them....him? What had he done to cause his own father not to want him? He felt a hand touch his shoulder and jerked his head around, to look into Buck Wilmington's eyes.
"I'm sorry, Kid. Didn't mean to scare ya. You okay?"
JD nodded, "I was just thinking."
"Do you want to talk?"
JD shook his head, "No." He paused for a moment and said, "I need to get back to this report about the Mackey bust or you know Chris will have my ass in a sling."
Buck gave a small chuckle, "Can't argue with that. Let me know if you do wanna talk."
JD nodded and turned back to his computer. He didn't see the concerned look that Buck or the other guys gave him. They all pretty much knew what was eating at the youngest agent, they just wished there was something they could do to help. JD pushed thoughts of Aaron Bishop to the back of his mind and concentrated on what to say in his report. By five that afternoon, JD had his report done and they were all ready to head out.
"Hey, JD, you want to head to Inez's with us?" Nathan Jackson asked as they all walked to the elevator.
"Not tonight, guys. I want to get home and rest some."
"Do you want some company?," Buck questioned.
"I'll be fine. You all have a good time." They walked into the parking garage and JD walked over to his motorcycle. "I'll see you all in the morning. "I'll see you later, Buck." With that JD started his motorcycle and with one last wave, he was gone. JD drove to he apartment that he shared with Buck and, once he was inside, he sat down at the desk in his room. He kept looking at he phone, wondering if he should try to get the answers to his questions. He was feeling restless, so he stood up and paced around his bedroom. He pulled the phone number, that he had looked up, out of his pocket and looked at it. With a sigh he flopped down backward onto the bed and said, "I'm not calling!"
Buck sat with his other five teammates and stared at the beer in his mug. "What's on your mind, Brother Buck?," Josiah Sanchez asked.
Buck sighed, "JD."
"Would you care to discuss it?," asked Ezra Standish.
Buck shrugged, "I'm worried about him. He's been out of it for a while."
The team leader, Chris Larabee, nodded in agreement. "About three weeks. Ever since he met his father."
Buck nodded, "Yep. Why'd he have to show back up?"
"He is his father, Buck."
Buck looked at Nathan in shock. "Father? Hell, he's just a sperm donor. He left him and his mother when the kid was two!"
"We're all upset about that, Buck. But, mabey, he's sincere in wanting to get to know him." Vin Tanner said, before taking a drink of his beer.
Buck snorted and took a gulp of his beer. "i'm going to head home and check on JD." As they watched him leave, the guys shared smiles at Buck's protectivniss of JD. They all knew that Buck looked at the youngest agent as a little brother.
JD continued to lay in his bed as he stared at the ceiling. The phone next to his bed started ringing, causing the young agent to sit straight up. Trying to get his breathing and heartbeat back to normal, he answered, "Hello?"
After a moment's pause he heard a voice, "JD? This is...Aaron Bishop. You remember?"
"Yeah, I remember. That's kind of hard to forget."
"Yes, I supposse it would be. I've wanted to call since I got your...um...letter. But I just couldn't make myself pick up the phone."
"So, what changed?"
"I decided that I just couldn' leave things that way," replied Aaron.
JD thought he sounded sincere enough but also knew from expeirence that that didn't really mean a whole heck of a lot. "Well, to be honest, I've thought about calling you too. I have several questions that I would like to get an answer to."
"I figured as much. Um, how about we meet for dinner tomorrow night?"
JD was silent for a moment and decided to go but he was going on his turf. "That sounds okay. how about Inez's at around eight?" After Aaron agreed and had gotten directions, JD hung up just as he heard the front door slam.
"Yo, Kid, ya here?"
JD walked into the livingroom and said, "You bellowed?"
Buck smiled at JD's sarcastic voice and said, "Yes." His voice softened and his voice grew serious, "I just wanted to make sure that you're okay. It wasn't the same at Inez's without you."
JD sighed, "I'm okay."
Buck could hear the annoyance in his friend's voice and said, "Alrighty. Hey, you wanna go The Bar and Grill? There'll be some hot ladies there!"
JD grimaced as Buck lifted his eyebrow's up and down. He'd only been to The Bar and Grill once and hadn't liked it. They had smoke thick enough that you couldn't see and women dressing in short skirts and low-cut blouses. He prefered women in jeans and t-shirts, low-key. He hadn't lasted an hour at the bar. He shook his head, "Naw. You know I don't like that place. Besides, I have plans."
"Plans? What plans?"
Aaron Bishop called just before you arrived and wants to meet with me tomorrow night."
Buck scowled, "You're not actually going to meet him?" At JD's silence he had his answer. "Why?"
"I have questions that I need answers to. Answers that only he can give me. You never knew your father either, Buck. Wouldn't you want answers form him?"
Buck ran his hand through his dark hair and sighed. "I guess so, Kid, I guess so."
