Griffin Alley # 17 was founded in 1970 and is affiliated with the “Clowns of American International”. The alley was named after Ray Griffin, one of the first makers of clown shoes in America and he was a charter member of the alley.

We are the Griffin Alley Clowns. We are based out of Canandaigua, NY. We are alley #17 in the Clowns Of America International.

Bump A Nose!!
There are about 16 clowns, with multi-talents, including magicians, jugglers, balloonists, face painters, plus our classy clown cars, scooters and bikes.
We are family oriented, have mom, dad and the kids, grandpa, grandma and grand children, that have trained together and participate in our activities.
Our memberships diversified, we have retirees, professionals, Healthcare Givers, Teachers, Custodians, Engineers, Town Councilman, a Sister of Mercy Nun, and an Ex-Mayor to name a few.
The Alley as a group and individuals, volunteer many hours to worthwhile causes e.g. visits to hospitals, MS walks, March of Dimes, Rotary and Lions clubs events, Mercy Flight Fund raisers etc.
Our training classes cover all the good and bad parts of being a clown. Proper application of make-up, types of clowns, costumes, developing a character, selecting a name, working with other clowns, performing for people that have special needs e.g. hospitals, nursing homes, physically impaired, emotionally disturbed & learning disabilities, etc.
It is hard work, time consuming (preparation time: get ready to make-up, make-up and dressing, travel time, to and from the gig, set-up time, the performance, take-down etc). Performing mostly on weekends can have a negative impact on the family.
However the rewards make it all worthwhile. The hug or smile of a child, special notes from a school class, the twinkle in the eye of the aged and a simple sincere “thank you”.
Our goal is to cheer people up, make them happy, make them laugh and make them momentarily forget, all the unpleasant things in their lives.
