This is a .45 caliber flintlock southern mountain rifle. The stock is a beautiful full length piece of Walnut with great figure through the butt section and very nice straight grain up the fore end. This is a typical iron mounted rifle with no frills other than the patchbox.

The finish on this rifle is a traditional finish of turpentine and beeswax, hand rubbed and polished. This finish is very durable and weather resistant, and requires little maintenance. It is also easily repairable to fix scratches and other minor blemishes.

This interpretation was beautifully crafted by Ryan McNabb of Ooltewah, Tn., and represents a very finely made "poor boy" rifle of the very early 19th century. This rifle is crafted following the old school methods using no power tools except for an electric drill to open the touch hole. Ryan can be contacted by e-mail at Ryan McNabb.

If you have photographs of some of the settlements , forts, artifacts or weapons that are correct to this time period (1740-1850), please let us know so that we can include them in our photo album.
