*My Hobbs/Dibdin problem*
My grandmother was born Oct.11,1885 in Portsmouth, Southampton as it says on her birth certificate. Her father is Charles Hobbs, a greengrocer. Her mother's name is Emma Hobbs, formerly Dibdin. The information on the certificate is given by Emma herself. But I cannot find a marriage registered for this couple--I have looked backwards and forwards from 1885 but can find nothing. I have searched the 1881 census and cannot find them. I have found many Charles Hobbs but no matching Emma Dibdins. Perhaps she was married before and married under another name. Does anyone have any ideas?
