My German Ancestors

My Mom-Selma Bauch Hamlyn

My grandparents, Ferdinand Bauch and Julianna Netzel, came to Canada in 1905 aboard the Lake Michigan. They left from Antwerp, Belgium and arrived in Quebec City at which point they took the train to Winnipeg,Manitoba. My Uncle Ben was born a month later in Winnipeg. After moving to Beausejour where grandad worked in the bottling plant, then back to Winnipeg, they finally homesteaded around Moosehorn in Manitoba. Although they left from the port of Antwerp, they had lived in Volhynia, Russia. Ferdinand was born in Obory in Russian Poland and moved to Julianna'a birthplace of Lubachin, Russia. This is where they married on April28,1904. After their marriage they moved to Poland and worked there for about a year before embarking for Canada.
