Precious Memories
Precious mem'ries, unseen angels,
Sent from somewhere to my soul;
How they linger, ever near me,
And the sacred past unfold.
Precious father, loving mother,
Fly across the lonely years;
And old home scenes of my childhood,
In fond memory appears.
In the stillness of the midnight,
Echoes from the past I hear;
Old time-singing, gladness bringing,
From that lovely land somewhere.
As I travel on life's pathway,
Know not what the years may hold;
As I ponder, hope grows fonder,
Precious mem'ries flood my soul.
chorus
Precious mem'ries, how they linger,
How they ever flood my soul.
In the stillness of the midnight,
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.

I have been revising and adding to my web pages, and it came to me how precious are some
of the memories I have of various people who are part of the tapestry of my life. An old
hymn which I remember from childhood came into my head, "Precious Memories". I
hope that as you look at the names and dates and places and the stories, you too will
recall with love precious people and precious times with those loved ones.
(This morning I called my Mother in Waycross, GA from my home in Rutherford, N J and asked
her to read me the words to this old hymn. I wrote them down as she did. She said,
"Honey, I hardly ever hear this song sung any more except now and then at
funerals." 27 February 1999 Does anyone know anything about the history and the date
of this old song? Did any of you ever hear it sung? Drop me a line or sign my guest book
if you have any comments about it. I really would appreciate it.) It is now 11 November 2004. I thought as I edit my web site and add more to it that I would delete the Precious Memories song, but maybe I will leave it for now and remove it at a later date.
"When I was a child we looked forward to
see the monkey man, he would have a crank organ and a tiny monkey who would be dressed in
a little red suit and cap. And when the dogs began to bark he would turn on his crank
organ and it would scare the dogs till they would go under the house and stay till he
left." Minnie Jane Henderson Griffin (1884-1981)
