OTTAWA - Thousands of Canadians gathered around memorials in big cities
and small towns across the country Saturday to pay tribute to the men and
women who have died in war.
LINKS: Web sites related to this story As always the largest ceremony was in Ottawa, where under a grey and
chilly sky old vets and young children stood by the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier as a trumpeter played the Last Post.
As they saluted fallen comrades, a young woman held up a sign covered in poppies that conveyed a simple but powerful message: "Thank You". Every Nov. 11, at the stroke of 11 a.m., Canadians take two minutes
to remember those who fought in war.
