Remembrance
Day 2000
OTTAWA - Thousands of Canadians gathered around memorials in big cities and small towns across the country Saturday to pay tribute to the men and women who have died in war.

As always the largest ceremony was in Ottawa, where under a grey and chilly sky old vets and young children stood by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as a trumpeter played the Last Post.
Cannon fire echoed through the core of the nation's capital, and tears welled in the eyes of some of the elderly Canadians who risked their lives in battle so many years ago.

As they saluted fallen comrades, a young woman held up a sign covered in poppies that conveyed a simple but powerful message: "Thank You".

Every Nov. 11, at the stroke of 11 a.m., Canadians take two minutes to remember those who fought in war.
