POWER FRISBEE OF GEORGIA

ROUND 1: EXHIBIT A-UGUSTA

AUGUSTA, August 24 -- The promised Premiere Night "battle of the sexes" happened, but not in the way originally expected. Augusta's Lee Lynch wound up playing Savannah's Heidi Schaffner in a one-game exhibition, and prevailed 5-2 at a rain-soaked Butler Bulldog Stadium.

The original plan was for Schaffner to play Power Frisbee's Founding President, but several late arrivals prevented that from happening. And Savannah's scheduled male thrower changed his plans in the days before Premiere Night, leaving no one to face Lynch. The result was a pairing of top male versus top female -- and both decided literally to "get their feet wet" in Power Frisbee, by taking the field barefoot on wet grass for the exhibition.

Schaffner threw first, and seemed to have a slight wind at her back. She scored on the fifth throw, and wound up with two singles in the first quarter. Then Lynch took the wind with the change of ends and gained two singles in the second. His last throw of the half was a 56-yard shot which went just under the crossbar, missing a field goal.

Lynch still had the wind in the third quarter, and scored twice more. Then the turning point of the game came at the end change, when Lynch had a 52-yard throw to open the fourth quarter stop inches short of a point. Pinned against her back line, Schaffner threw a short shot that Lynch answered with a second-chance point. Schaffner tried to hurry downfield, but a 60-yard field goal try on the final throw to force overtime fell well wide and short.

Power Frisbee ruled Lynch of Augusta the winner of the scheduled men's match with Savannah by walkover. And to make things fair, Schaffner has been awarded a similar walkover in the women's division for lack of an Augusta thrower. Lynch and Schaffner are scheduled to face top throwers from Valdosta in Round 2 on Sunday, August 27.

SAVANNAH (Schaffner) - 2 0 0 0 = 2

AUGUSTA (Lynch) - 0 2 2 1 = 5

Total throws -- 24 each. Long -- not recorded. FG -- none. Penalties -- none. A -- 3.
