So, I was browsing around the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time board on GameFAQs (which, if you're reading this, you probably know about well), and I came across a topic, asking the people who they think Link should end up with in the end, be it Zelda, Malon, Ruto, etc. Later in this topic, someone mentions that it HAD to be Zelda that Link hooked up with. Why? Because, in the beginning of A Link to the Past, upon entering Hyrule Castle via the secret passage, Link's uncle states "Zelda is your...". This person, and a few others, have agreed that in A Link to the Past, Link and Zelda are, in fact, brother and sister (which isn't actually stated at all). Well, I'm here to give my thoughts on why that is NOT true.
First off, I'll start by explaining why this theory has come about: As stated above, in ALttP Link's Uncle says "Zelda is your..." Some believe that the word following "your..." is "sister". Well, if in fact, ALttP does take place one generation after OoT, then this could possibly make some sense, if in fact Link had married Zelda and they had kids (the fact that there are descendents of Link and Zelda is not the issue, but that those descendents come from the mating of Link and Zelda IS), in which case, yes, Link and Zelda would be brother and sister in ALttP, since every Link and every Zelda are direct descendents from the originals (said to be in OoT). The fact that Link lives with his Uncle could be that the original Link did not want his descendent to be associated with Zelda prematurely, in that, Ganondorf could locate both of them at once and destroy them both, rather than capturing Zelda and allowing Link the time to gain strength. A possibility.
Now, to start my disproving... Let's start with the text in ALttP. "Zelda is your..." Your what? From what I can see, it could mean anything. He could be saying "Zelda is your destiny." or "Zelda is your key to saving the world." Or something. But it doesn't actually state that they're brother and sister. Besides, if they were, wouldn't that make Link the Prince of Hyrule? Of course, in the game, it only states that Link is a direct descendent from one of the Knights in the Imprisoning War (which we also find is true in OoT, after clearing the Forest Temple). Plus, since Zelda seems to dabble in psychic ability (seeing as she can use telepathy and such) would know that she and Link are relatives and would have SAID something. Guess not.
Well, that's all I can say directly for ALttP. But now, we bring in other sources! Well, one other source, with a lot of references. Our new source is WW! Okay, in WW, Link is NOT a descendent of the Hero of Time (OoT Link), this is stated thoroughly, especially given his inability to speak Hylian (it isn't said that the Links can understand Hylian, but there has never been a problem with not understanding until WW came along, in which Link was not a descendent of the Hero of Time). Just have to get that straight. But this doesn't even have to do with Link. It has to do with the little history lesson they give. In this history lesson, they talk about Ganon just after the Imprisoning War (this is when OoT takes place). It states the Ganon came, the Hero of Time (OoT Link, remember?) defeated him, locking him in the Sacred Realm (On a side note, Ganon doesn't actually escape until the original LoZ, since he never leaves the Sacred Realm in ALttP). Well, then the Hero of Time LEAVES Hyrule. This is when MM occurs, when young Link travels off in search of a dear friend (believed to be Navi, but none are absolutely certain). When Link succeeds at saving Termina in MM, some believe that he returns to Hyrule, which would be the basis for the Link and Zelda Had Kids theory. BUT, in WW, it is stated, in the same history lesson, that when Ganon returned to Hyrule, the Hero of Time did NOT. So, if we are to believe that ALttP takes place on generation after OoT(or MM), then that means Link's descendent might be there, the new ALttP Link, but not the original Hero of Time. Well, if Link never returned to Hyrule (although his son did), then Link couldn't have had kids with Zelda. Besides, if Link and Zelda had kids and thus begat the ALttP Link, then WHO THE FUCK IS LINK'S UNCLE?! The Hero of Time had no relatives! He was an only child, who didn't fuck the hell out of Zelda because they are doomed to be in a plutonic relationship. Plus, NEVER have I ever seen evidence that Zelda had a brother. Meaning, since Link has no siblings, and Zelda has no siblings, if the ALttP Link IS the son of OoT Link, then WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY POSING AS LINK'S UNCLE?!
Well, let's just say that it DOESN'T take place after just one generation (which is what I personally believe). If this is true, then that means Link's Uncle could, in fact, be legitimate. In fact, that would also make Link's Uncle a descendent to the Hero of Time (which is probably why he set out to save Zelda himself, thinking Link to be too young). Well, he failed miserably, but that's beside the point. In WW, Link is not a descendent of the Hero of Time. But Tetra IS a descendent of (OoT) Princess Zelda. And if the descendents of the Hero of Time are meant to defeat Ganon, then why couldn't Tetra alone kick his ass, if she has the blood of both (OoT) Princess Zelda and the Hero of Time? Because she DOESN'T have both bloodlines in her. Only Zelda's. As for why WW Link is not a descendent of the Hero of Time, well... let's face it, Link couldn't win all the time, right? Maybe, on the most recent Link's journey through the world (whatever is supposed to come before WW), he didn't get any nookie and thus, failed at life, although defeating one of Legend of Zelda's many boss-type monsters. Just think... Destroying evil monsters from small to enormous, defeating the King of Evil, an Evil Wizard, and some other people with Evil abilities... and in the end? No nookie from the Princess. Such is (Any) Link's fate. But, he's still a cool guy, he probably wandered off and fucked some other person.
And so, that is my reasoning for WHY LINK AND ZELDA ARE NOT RELATIVES, YOU STUPID FUCKS. Oh, one more thing, INCEST IS WRONG!
