The fourth of our 2011 games
In the Sand-Box
This is our third game for the year 2011. We played this at Bill Hamilton's home in North Jackson on February 5, 2011. Ed Sansing was the Game-Master using a modified version of Arty Conliffe's Crossfire rules.
Insurgent forces "somwhere in the sand-box" were disputing the ownership of a patch of mixed terrain with some of Her Majesty's forces. The exact country (probably Iraqistan) was not identified.

An insurgent platoon, occupying a piece of scrubby rough terrain, reveals itself by firing.

The Third platoon takes fire while crossing between patches of scrub, killing the platoon leader.

The company commander calls for a smoke mission, which gives Third platoon cover while they get out of the open.
Who were the players in this game?
The Insurgents were commanded by Jim Pitts and Ed Sansing. The British players were Sean Pitts and Bill Hamilton. Ed Sansing also ran the game, as the figures, structures, vehicles and scenery were all his.

The insurgants used the cover of the smoke as well, taking position in the building complex (treated as a terrain feature rather than a building due to its size). the Warrior opens fire with its machine gun, trying to clear the buildings by fire.
Obviously the photographer was standing on the back deck of the warrior while it was firing. that is why his image is a bit blurry!

The Second platoon, with company machine gun attached, holds a low hill on the left and waits for the advancing insurgents to move into view.

A squad of the First platoon spots an enemy MG team moving forward and opens fire, suppressing them.

The First and Second platoons have pushed the insurgents back towards the river.
So, what happened here?
Jim Pitts writes: "Ed and I had our hands full as the insurgent leaders. Although both of us got destroyed, I think I did more damage to my British opponent (Bill Hamilton) than Ed did to his. My forces killed a Warrior ACV, five of the nine British infantry squads, and a platoon leader. Sean did much better against Ed, only losing three infantry squads."
