Pueblo Diablo
The SECRET victory Conditions

The Jackson Gamers played this first 2002 game at Mark and Martha Stevens' home in Columbia MS. Unknown to the commanders-in-chief, each player had differing victory conditions - usually in opposition to the others on their own side! Photos by Anna Stevens.

The Juaristas!

The victory conditions of El Supremo - The Juarista Commander in Chief:
Move the arms and explosives in the 4 wagons, off the edge of the board anywhere within 12" of the road's exit point.

Pablo Escabar - Leader of the first division
Your victory conditions: Destroy the French! You have sworn vengeance on the head of your dead father. You must kill at least 50 Frenchmen. If you can do this, your honor will be satisfied and you may leave the battlefield with your men.

El Gato - Leader of the Second division
Your victory conditions: Destroy the Village because the traitors living there have sold their souls to the French! You have sworn to punish these sheep! You must occupy the village and hold it for 4 turns. You will generate 2 wagon loads of plunder and comely senoritas which must be escorted off the battlefield with your men.

Jaime Golem - Leader of the Third division
Your victory conditions: Capture hostages in close combat from the French to use to ransom your betrothed who has been taken by the pig of a Frenchman, Ducros. You have sworn death to Ducros also, so if you can arrange his demise, more the better! Any Frenchmen who "fall back" out of a close combat that you win, must be diced for with a D6. 1-3 they escape, 4-6 they are your prisoners, as are any wounded Frenchmen in a close combat which you win. You must take at least 10 hostages. Once you have done that, you may leave the battlefield with your men and captives.

Cesar Ensalada - Leader of the fourth division
Victory conditions: Capture the French artillery pieces. A man with cannon is a power in this army. You must think of the future. You must take at least 2 guns. Once you have done that, you may leave the battlefield with your men and captives.

Must be market day - the town is quite crowded.

The Maximilianos!

The victory conditions of General de' Brigade Gerard - Commander in Chief of the Maximilianos:
Capture the arms and explosives cached by the insurgents on the field. Destroy the insurgent force said to be in this ugly valley and even uglier town.

Colonel Marmont - Commander of 1st Brigade
Victory Conditions: Destroy the enemies of France. You are a childless widower with no family. You know no life but the Army of France! You must kill at least 50 of the enemy to feed the little devils of hate and ambition that live within you!

Colonel Barbeau - Commander of 2nd Brigade
Victory Conditions: You want to occupy the village in this little valley. A spy in your pay has assured you that the villagers are loyal to the emperor Maximilian. Furthermore, they will pay you well to assure their safety.

Furthermore, your greasy spies have intimated that some of the landowners around here might be cash poor, but rich in lovely and elegant daughters of marriageable age. You could find a wife or perhaps merely someone to help you pass the lonely hours…

Colonel Mazarin - Commander of 3rd Brigade
Victory Conditions: You understand that the Lord above helps those who help themselves. If your command seizes the Insurgent's wagons of ammunition and weapons, then you can sell them back to their former owners on the black market. Also the village can be "squeezed" and will produce 2 wagonloads of gold and other valuables if you occupy it for 2 turns. You must get these wagons off the table within 12" of the road exit point.

Colonel Ducros - Commander of 4nd Brigade
Victory Conditions: You have recently won the friendship and affection of a lovely Mexican lady who comes from the village in this small valley. She wishes to send her father gifts of new clothing and money, which you have on a packhorse, which accompanies you. If you can get this pack animal into the town while it is under French occupation, you will stand high in the Lady's esteem.

Also, if you do well in this campaign, the whispers in the Commander-in-chief's camp say that you are sure to be promoted. The wife of a Brigadier stands much higher socially than the wife of a Colonel. Your beloved lady is very ambitious.
