Part 2 - The East
Ashley Koostra peers towards the town of Millerski, early in the game. A red battery has set up, and masses of infantry move forward directly under his gaze.
The defenders at the bridge commanded by Sean Pitts (not shown). The Red infantry in the woods to their front made several sorties, but always fell back under the fire of the entrenched infantry, and the shrapnel shells of the interventionist artillery in Millerski.
Millerski viewed from the south-west. The Canadian artillery battery (4 guns) is visible in front of the large brown building. Red infantry can be seen towards the rear.
Another shot of the cavalry battle to the west.
Millerski close up, viewed from the south. Stands of infantry on the roofs of buildings show occupation by forces within. A column of Red infantry with a banner denoting elite status can be seen in the background. A white officer gestures imperiously next to the orange house.
The same turn but from seen from the Red side. A column of Red infantry marches directly under the cameraman's viewpoint headed for the town. A line of Red infantry in greenish uniforms can be seen fighting their way down the main street, being fired on by White marksmen perched on the roof of the railroad terminal.
The last turn of the game, the red reinforcements have reached the edge of the town on the extreme left. One of the sections of Canadian artillery has been pulled back from the entrenchments and is firing straight down the main street of Millerski, trying to halt the advance of the red infantry. The whites still hold the large brown building, but the other large structure in the town, the railroad station, has fallen to the Bolshevik infantry. The ejected white defenders can be seen in the background.
Three valiant Bolsheviks. Comrade Josh (on the left) commanded the doomed Red Cavalry to the west in their attempts to ford the river. Comrade Ashley (center) supported the cavalry and attacked the railroad bridge. Comrade Fred, (right) sucessfully assaulted the town of Millersky. His victorious red infantry pushed the whites out of the only warm cover on the battlefield, and into the snow.
Attention Heroic soldiers of the legal government of Russia! The start of our victorious offensive is almost at hand! With the Spring thaws expected every day, your forces will have an important task, guarding the supply lines of the 1st army just to the North. This offensive will retake Tsaritsyn and with that vital junction in our hand, we will sweep onward to Moscow. You have three forces on the field. A group of 3 units of Cossack cavalry with one attached tchanka which have been conducting anti-partisan patrols to the north of Millerski. The Millerski garrison consists of 2 units of Infantry with 2 machine guns and two sections of INTERVENTIONIST (Canadian) artillery. The interventionists are +1 to all rolls. (-1 to morale rolls). There is a garrison of 2 units of infantry with one machine-gun at the bridge. Before the game starts, if you wish, any or all of them may be relocated into Millerski. Reinforcements may come down the railroad from the 1st Army to the North or from General Denikin’s Headquarters to the south. Or, they may not. (they did not) Two of your units may have a banner to mark elite status. There are also two priests in Millerski to inspire the men. You may have 2 officers on the field. Your objectives are to hold the town of Millerski, which is the bread-baking and supply node for the first army to the north of here. Also, to safeguard the Railroad which is the actual supply line, especially the railroad bridge to the west of Millerski. In addition, you will be conducting cavalry sweeps to prevent any Bolshevik embarrassment to our supply trains. A large amount of ammunition for the artillery of the 1st army has been received from British supply ships at Sevastopol and has been stored in one of the buildings in Millerski. You may designate which building. Be especially vigilant to keep this from the hands of the Bolsheviks. Unfortunately, this ammunition will not fit the guns assigned to your force. Your actual artillery ammunition during the game may be limited. (in actuality, it was not limited) Long live the Czar! Death to the Bolsheviki! |
