|
The Hurricanes came into their second tournament of the year, at the Milliken Mills Tournament (August 25-26, 2001). They went in with high hopes since they had won their last tournament (The Sunoco West Rouge Tournament). So they went into the first day full of excitement. And managed to win their first game against Erin Mills 2-0. Then in their second game they played Pickering, and came back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game at 1-1. Then in their third game they won 2-1 over West End United who only managed to score off a penalty shot. All, in all the Hurricanes came out of day one of the tournament as first in their pool. |
On the second day of the tournament the Hurricanes found themselves going up against the wild card winner, Dixie. The Hurricanes wanted to quickly do away with this game and go on to the finals, however Dixie put up a great fight, and they had to go into a penalty shoot-out to determine a winner. Dixie's first shot hit the cross bar, and their fourth shot was saved by Goalkeeper R. Jason Hearst allowing John Cintosun, the fourth shooter for the Hurricanes to put the game away with his good penalty shot. The Hurricanes won 1-0 and celebrated after! |
In the final, the Hurricanes came up against Brampton. This was the second meeting of these two teams, as their first was in the semi-finals of the Sunoco West Rouge Tournament. The Hurricanes had won before 2-1, and Brampton was looking for revenge. And they got it about twenty minutes into the game Brampton scored on a header from a cross. The Hurricanes battled hard but couldn't seem to get another goal. Their main problem was that they couldn't get shots on goal, and they ended up losing 1-0 in the final to Brampton. In the ceremonies after, the Hurricanes received their finalists trophies, and the goal scorer for Brampton received the tournament MVP award. And R. Jason Hearst, the Hurricane goalkeeper received the tournament Best Goalkeeper Award. Top | Back | Next | Home |
