Tiny warriors

Well they don't come much tinier. These little gems are 2mm figures produced by Irregular Miniatures. I acquired them as an impulse buy several years ago but never managed to raise the energy to do anything with them.

A while back I visited Tony Hughes' 2mm DBA page and my interest was aroused and then I joined the 2mm newsgroup and a new interest grew steadily from there.  Tony states on his page that there are two approaches to DBA with 2mm figures

  1. To use single blocks and a smaller ground scale which is the approach he chose .

  2. To use 15mm base sizes and fill it up with figures. His objections were that the bases looked like groups of blocks rather than units.

For my own part I rather like a challenge. ?=0)  I also like the idea of a big battle appearance with a small number of bases. That's the route I chose to go. In some respects Tony was right . That was the first obstacle to be overcome . I got round the problem by cutting and joining blocks to disguise their original shapes. It's not cheap you need lots of blocks. A base of spears for example needs 9 blocks while a warband needs 8 blocks and a chariot . Nope not cheap at all. I also made the bases look more like one unit rather than a group of blocks by gluing the blocks to the bases before painting and then filling the area between the blocks with green stuff to make a terrain base. I further complicated matters by keeping open the option of expanding to DBM so I have made regular and irregular bases obviously different. Not cheap and very laborious. The end result is, in my opinion, however, spectacular. If you have come this far and have any comments to make, feel free to mail me or contact me through the 2mm yahoo group forum.
