My cousin bought this game because he is a big soccer fan.  After playing I thought it was a good soccer game since it is the first one I have played on the Gamecube.  It had all the features that make a good soccer game.  It was very challenging, interesting and the game announcer was just incredible.  You could hear the crowds in the stadium chanting in the team’s language and cheering for them.  It is a very realistic game with great graphics.  There are some movies that take over when you commit a foul, do a substitution, score or a goal or get a yellow or red card.  The animation in the movies is very funny and you can see how the players complain about the call to the referee. The players in the game also look like the real life players. The game also features movies with interviews of people from different countries and how they feel about the World Cup  The controls are also easy to learn and there are hidden teams to unlock.

The game plays like a real soccer game.  If you have seen the World Cup you can see the resemblance between the real thing and the game.  The game imitates the World Cup right to the very last detail.  The Camera angles, free throws, commentator announcements, etc.  The game also features star players that are faster, pass better, and have much more chances of scoring a goal.  Your star player is highlighted with a star to distinguish him from the rest.  It is also a lot of fun to play this game with more than one person.  Up to four people can play this game.

All the official teams and stadiums are found in this game.  It also tells you when they qualified and how they did the last time they entered the World Cup.  The game allows you to play a friendly match or the World Cup.  Four difficulty levels make the game much more interesting to play.  But at first going from the beginner level to the amateur one will be hard because you need to learn all the moves in order to do well in the next difficulty level.  The computer AI is good at controlling the other players in your team as well as the opposite team.   The only complain I have is that there are not enough teams in this game.  You can find the official teams and some hidden ones but that is all you get.

I really enjoy playing this game because of the controls.  You use the analog pad to move around the field.  The X button is used for a kick or a tackle, Y button is used to sprint, B button is used to do a lob or an aggressive tackle and the A button is used for passing.  The R and L buttons are used for special moves or to juggle the ball in the air.  Juggling the ball adds a lot of fun and strategy into the game.  Theses buttons are also used to curve the ball.   Perhaps the most interesting feature of the controls is that you use the C button’s analog properties to make passes.  It is those passes where you pass it to your teammate and then the teammate passes it back to you.  It is a cool feature that I really liked from this game.  You can pass the ball in all directions while you run in the opposite one.  The game also features a new “airplay” system which lets you prepare a kick before the ball touches the ground and use your head, chest or feet to take control of the ball before it hits the ground so you can avoid tackles.

The commentators also increase the fun factor in the game.  They keep track of your plays and sometimes even make fun of some of the players when they really mess up.  It is one of the best things about this game.  I really liked the announcements they make about the game.  Especially with that accent that reminds me of James Bond movies, I do not know why.

Overall, 2002 FIFA World Cup is a fun soccer game with a lot of extras.  If you are a soccer fun, you should get this game because it is a lot of fun to play.  Once you start playing you will realize how close this game resembles the real thing.  My cousin was screaming at the players as if it was the real things because the animations found within the game.  It is the only official licensed videogame of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.  I would recommend you to get this game before the World Cup is over if you are a soccer fan but the average gamer could still enjoy this game although I think the  previous version of the game features more teams and gameplay modes.  Only get this game if you are truly a soccer fan.  Otherwise get "FIFA Soccer 2002" also from Electronic Arts which is basically the same but with more features such as more teams and you will get your money's worth because this game costs around $19.98
