The corner was the site of Hibernia Bank and was given the name "Hibernia Beach" where in good weather male bellydancers could be seen, on the street, performing to the best of their ability.

On 17th just above the intersection of Castro and Market this onion-domed 1902 home marks the site of the intersection of the main stage for the annual Castro Street Fair.
