Edward Gein is the man who inspired Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs. He lived in Wisconsin where he was devoted to his mother. Once she passed away, he started commiting many gruesome and brutal crimes. Discovered in his house when he was arrested: mutilated corpse of a woman hanging in the shed, bracelets of human skin, four human noses in a cup, a pair of human lips, strips of human skin covering four chairs, a drum made from a coffee can with human skin stretched over the top and bottom, a pair of leggings made from human skin, skin from a woman's torso made into a vest, nine skinned faces of women - masks,ten heads of women sawed off above the eyebrows, a head converted into a soup bowl, a purse with handles made of human skin, a refrigerator full of human organs, a human heart on the stove, a belt made of human nipples, and a lampshade made out of human skin. He made a hobby out of digging up bodies from graves. There is only evidence to prove that he killed two people; however, one was a young woman estimated to be between 12-16, and she was not dug up from the graveyard.

Mayhem

Vocalist: Dead, expired of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head in 1991. Bandmate Euronymous claimed to have cooked and eaten pieces of brain. Bandmate Hellhammer made a necklace from some skull fragments.

Guitarist: Oystein Aarseth, "Euronymous," killed in his underwear the morning of August 10, 1993. Stabbed in the head and back 23 times by Varg, Bass player.

Bassist: Christian Varg Vikernes, "Count Grishnackh," his bass tracks were supposedly erased from the latest CD at the request of Euronymous' parents.

Drummer: "Hellhammer," a former mental hospital orderly. Alive and rockin'!!

Emperor

Vocalist/Guitarist/Keyboardist: "Ihsahn," free to rock!

Guitarist: "Samoth," sentenced to at least sixteen months for church arson.

Bassist: "Tchort," sentenced to six months for knife assault, burglary, and desecration.

Bassist: "Mortiis," quit and moved to Sweden. Took up playing dark electronic folk music.

Drummer: Bard G. Eithun, "Faust," sentenced to 14 years in jail for arson, burglary, and stabbing a homosexual acquaintance to death behind the Olympic Park in Lillehammer, Norway. "He did not get a gold medal," read one fanzine report.

Burzum

Vocalist/keyboardist/guitarist/drummer: Varg, sentenced to the maximum 21 years for arson and the knife murder of black metal mentor Euronymous of Mayhem. Possibly motive: jealousy over the Euronymous' evil reputation. Grishnackh allegedly planned to inflict more wounds than Bard Faust of Emperor had given his victim. When arrested, police found 150kg of stolen dynamite and plans to bomb a large church during religious holiday. Now the Count spends his time drumming up publicity and studying books on facism.

Says Varg, "Negative, destructive, anti-development, unrealistic and Utopian: I have heard it all. Yes I am negative to the modern civilisation, yes I applaud the destruction of the modern civilisation, yes I seek the end of the "development" of this modern civilisation, yes I know it is unrealistic to believe in a New World and yes I know that what we want to replace the old with can seem Utopian to most people.

I have to be negative to a "civilisation" which rapes Mother Earth and murders our human races, which tortures animals and destroys everything that is good, pure, natural, healthy and clean. To even think about developing this sick, degenerate, anti-nature, Judeo-Christian, Capitalist pig "civilisation" is out of the question. It has to go, it has to be levelled to the ground so that we can build something new."

Defenestration is defined as the art of throwing something, usually a person, out of a window. It was performed on numerous occasions in Exeter (in Southern England) during the War of the Roses.

The defenestration was that of Martinitz, Slavata, and Fabricius in Prague (then in Bohemia) on 23 May 1618. They were members of the Regency of Matthias, Holy Roman Emperor; Martinitz and Slavata were two of his three most important ministers. Matthias had left Prague in late 1617, leaving the government in the hands of the regency (which consisted of seven Catholics and four Protestants); in March 1618, an Imperial letter was issued forbidding meetings of Protestants (this was during the Counterreformation). On 23 May, Thurn, Ruppa, and Colonna de Fels met with four of the Catholic regents (in addition to Fabricius, who was there as a secretary), asking whether those four had anything to do with the edict forbidding the meetings. In the ensuing confrontation, they accused Martiniz and Slavata of alliance with the Jesuits, and proceeded to throw both of them, followed by Fabricius, from the window. Only Slavata was injured, and that was minor.

Charles Manson was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 11, 1934. He lived with his mother until he was five years old, when she went to prison for strong-arm robbery. He then stayed with various relatives until she was released from prison in 1942. He remained with his mother until 1947, when she placed him in the Gibault School for Boys in Indiana. After ten months, Manson escaped. Captured soon after, and having committed a series of minor burglaries, he was held briefly in the Juvenile Detenion Center in Indianapolis, Indiana before being sent to the famous Boys Town in Nebraska. He left after three days. Caught again, for another series of burglaries, he was then sent to Indiana School for Boys at Plainfield. He escaped from Plainfield in 1951 but was caught again, this time in a stolen car at a roadblock in Utah. This time Manson got federal time for driving a stolen car across state lines. He went first to the National Training School for Boys in Washington DC, then to the Natural Bridge Training Camp in 1951. He was transferred to the Federal Reformatory in Petersburg, Pennsylvania in 1952, then went on to the Federal Reformatory at Chillicothe, Ohio. He was finally paroled on May 8, 1954. He married Rosalie Willis in 1955. Later in 1955 he was arrested in Los Angeles, California with another stolen car and was sentenced to three years in the federal prison at Terminal Island in San Pedro, California. He was released 1958. He was arrested 1959 for check forging, and got 10 years probation. He was arrested again 1960 for violating the Mann Act, and his probation on the check charge was revoked. He was incarcerated for seven and a half years, mostly at McNeil Island in Washington state, before being released from Terminal Island in March of 1967. He was then out until he was arrested in October 1969 for arson and grand theft auto. In December 1969 he was charged with murder. Convicted in January, 1971, he has been incarcerated ever since.
