Good luck exploring the infinite abyss
Last night, I saw the Last Kiss with Leigh. I can't say I wasn't warned, but it was still disappointing. I don't know why I bother to go to see relationship movies anymore -- they're either unrealistic fairytales, which I find a) endearing or b) annoying, or they are depressing "don't even bother because you're just going to get fucked" tales of cheating and misery and monotony. The Last Kiss was of the latter variety, and I swear to god, at the end, Leigh and I just sat there in the theater, stunned. Do not see this with your boyfriend/girlfriend/anyone you claim to love romantically. There is nowhere to go with this movie. Nowhere good, anyway. If you want to break up with someone, this might be a good, subtle hint.
Braff doesn't do the earnest confessions of love/passion well. And Casey Affleck seemed muted the entire movie. Even Blythe Danner couldn't get it right. The subplots/interweaving story lines weren't given enough attention, so they just kind of dangled out there like examples of how else to fuck up a relationship.
Oh, well. At least the soundtrack was good.
