Veggie Garden, Fall 2003 The vegetable garden is divided into twelve six by six foot beds. The beds are divided by 18" wide brick paths made from salvaged bricks. The same bricks are used as an edging around both the vegetable garden and the rose beds.

I try to mix in flowers and plant the vegetable in patterns and use complimentary foliage textures and colors to make the garden more visually pleasing. I also use bamboo teepees to give a vertical element to the garden.

All the vegetables are grown organically. I fertilize in the spring with an organic mix I make up for the roses. The plots were ammended with manure. I use grass clippings or old hay as mulch. The crops are rotated (with the exception of the asparagus and strawberries) so that different plant families are not put in the same plot two seasons in a row. I also try to plant nitrogen loving plants like lettuce in spots were legumes were the last crop.
