Love Sedative

*Notes: Ok, I've been working on this for awhile and I finally GOT into it. @_^ This fic takes place after the war with that little red haired girl on the L1 colony with Heero. Remember, it's AFTER the war...

Heero is becoming a doctor and Duo arrives in the area in an unusual way. Contains shounen ai, in direct romance, ooc-ness somewhere, Dora egging Heero on, eventual 1+2.

Heero walked down the hallway of the latest school he had enrolled in, seven months ago, avoiding all contact with any other students that may come his way while he was in his study period. He was quite handsome in his long dark navy blue pants, black tie that was secured at his throat, white long button downed sleeved shirt, slender stethoscope around his neck and that white coat that doctors wore.

The war was finally over. He moved back to the L1 colony to live, or to learn to live. The war was gone and he could be normal. As if he wasn't abnormal already. He was studying to be a doctor, at the age of 18, to help rectify his past and heal people, instead of killing them off like flies in his past. He was almost a doctor, all he needed was the necessary hours to complete his training and the diploma for proof that he was a doctor.

He made his way towards a narrow corridor with a white clipboard at the hospital he was apprenticing at. On the clipboard held the name of a sick patient by the name Dora Pasrume, age fifteen. He opened the door and found her sketching a picture in her wheelchair by the large airy window in her room.

He looked at her in surprise. He had been helping to treat her lately and nowadays, he was given the duty to his own hands. Dora was his patient now and it was up to him to heal her, but Dora was always filled with surprises every time he checked up on her.

"Ms. Dora, are you sure you're ok to do this?" Heero patiently tapped the edge of the wheelchair with his clipboard.

"Oh, quite fine, thank you, Dr. Yuy. But, I have one more talent that you don't know of yet," she replied, with a smile on her face as she finished sketching a black and white picture of the backyard behind the hospital.

"Oh? What's that?"

"I'm a bit of a psychic. Right now, somewhere in your very doctor-like brain, you love someone very much and you don't realize it. Anyway, just thought I'd drop that on you," she finished her sketch and grinned at Heero while raising an eyebrow at him with an amused glint in her eye.

Heero looked back at her startled, love? Him? Him love someone? Impossible. Besides, how would a sixteen year old know anything about love? She's really sick so she can't be thinking correctly. He cocked his head to the side and gave her a small disarming smile. Then he spoke.

"Ms. Dora, I'm afraid the medicine I have prescribed to you was a bit strong on you. Are you sure you don't want to rest on the bed? I'll make sure you have no one interrupt your slumber and--"

Dora cut back at him. "Sorry to interrupt you, Dr. Yuy, but I strongly believe I'm right. Besides," she winked at him. "The medicine helped my psychic abilities get a jump start," she replied with a bemused smile.

Heero sighed. Maybe there was someone he kinda liked, but how the hell did they get from talking about Dora to talking about him and his love life?! It just didn't make sense to him.

Talk like this reminded him of the times he had bunked with Duo during the war while he did his homework or typed on the laptop. Heero would listen, but always made it look like he didn't pay attention. Duo would talk and talk and wouldn't shut up. He'd talk about Oz, then, next minute, he'd start yabbering about how Wufei was such an up-tight Chinese-ian dude and that he needed to get laid by someone fast.

His smile grew unknowingly as he thought about it and Dora's eyes curved up to match her grin.

"See? There IS someone special on your mind! I bet those clear violet eyes are waiting for you..." she hinted at him.

He snapped back to reality when she said violet eyes. Duo had violet eyes, beautiful wide violet eyes that always looked at him and felt its stabbing glare every time Duo turned to talk to him. Hold on, Duo? Did he really have feelings for Duo? Maybe even loved him?

He gave Dora a blank look and blinked. He cleared his throat and shook himself.

"Ah, Ms. Dora, you don't need to worry about me. I can handle my life quite nicely. Right now, I need to tend to you and see that you get well."

Dora stuck her tongue out at him and blew a childish raspberry in his direction. Then she proceeded to giggle, her dark green eyes shaking with mirth.

"What's so funny?" Heero questioned, his right eyebrow raised.

She gasped back a laugh and cupped her hands to her face cheerily.

"You know, doc, you can be very funny. So funny, that it's ironic! My psychic abilities tell me that you're denying it, but something else is going to change your mind. As a matter of fact..." she paused to listen for something. "Something will happen... soon."

Several moments later, a nurse rushed into the room with clipboard in hand.

"Dr. Yuy, your assistance is needed NOW. It's crucial! We have a patient by the name of Duo Maxwell and is in serious condition! He has four broken ribs, a broken left leg, a fractered ankle on his right and his right arm is broken in three places!" she gasped out while she blabbered out the injuries from the clipboard in her hands.

Heero's eyes widened in shock as he looked at the nurse as Dora observed them with eyes darkened with pleasure. It was her turn to give back to the doctor who was so kind to treat her during her days of gloom. Hopefully, this event would help trigger some love back into Heero's life.

Dora stared at Heero with a raised eyebrow.

"Eh, doc, don't you need to get going? I'll be just dandy right here with the nurse while you're gone, oks?"

Heero looked back at her and gave her a very small smile.

"Arigatou," was all he said and quickly left the room in a hurry with the blabbering nurse.

Dora sat back in her wheelchair and moved herself to face the window. A red robin landed on the sill of the window and quietly sang to her, lulling her to sleep with a content smile on her face.

~~~~~
Heero quickly followed the nurse up onto the second floor while she rapidly talked with arms flailing about.
"Dr. Yuy, I know you aren't totally experienced being a doctor, but I hear you're the best in your class. This patient, I think, knows you as well because he kept saying your name over and over. Maybe it has to do with his serious condition for him to slip past being concious of doing anything or something. Anyway, we're short on some doctors and we could use your assistance. When you get your diploma, I'll make sure that you'll be a doctor here. You'd be a big help to our small staff."
Heero only half paid attention to her as he walked to keep up the nurse's quick strides. 'Duo... Duo... why'd you come to L1? What happened to you? You're not the type to go and get hurt for no particular reason and you were a gundam pilot. Trained expertise in stealth and close hand to hand combact. It's not like you at all...'
The nurse rounded a corner in haste and knocked on a door to her right. An extremely weak voice pierced through the air.
"Come in."
The nurse turned around to look at Heero. He looked back at her and gave her a knowing look.
"How is he?"
"Right now, he's most likely bandaged up and been given medicine. I'm surprised that he's awake still, you know how medicine helps the patient sleep, that way, the healing can start. Do what you can; leave Dora to me. Something tells me that you'll need time and so does that patient."
She stepped away abruptly and gave him the clipboard in her hand. "Ganbatte ne," she murmured as she walked off to the floor below to wait on Dora.
~~~~~

Heero stared at the door and quietly schooled his features for the upcoming confrontation. He clicked open the door and walked in. The scene that stood in front of him surprised him. Wires, tubes, bandages were all over the place, covering the patient and furniture as well from the hustle to stop the bleeding of Duo's injuries. Duo's eyes were slanted down with fatigue as he shifted his eyes to the figure by the door.

"...hi...Heero...?*cough* how did you-"

Heero quietly shut the door behind him and walked over to him. His eyes darted all over Duo's body and shifted his attention to the ribs that were bandaged heavily. He applied very light pressure on the area with his hand and watched as Duo's face shrink down to gritting his teeth.

"Don't strain yourself, Duo. What are you doing in the L1 colony?"

Duo cracked an eye at him as Heero removed his hand off his chest.

"I...tired of L2, decided to take a... vacation somewhere. *cough* Bored outta my mind... didn't intend on... meeting you... here, place..." He coughed again and winced at the pain flaring up on him.

"Oh... I'm studying to be a doctor..."

Duo raised an eyebrow at him. "Wow, I think you've exceeded your 50 word per a day limit..." he weakly joked.

Heero chuckled and sat next to him.

Duo's eyes popped out of his face. "And you smiled and laughed. *cough* That's... like... a miracle. Impressive..."

Heero smiled and ruffled his hair. Duo made a face of dismay and blinked worridly.

"Don't worry. I'll take care of you. It'll take a while since you have four broken ribs, you broke your left leg, a fractered ankle on your right leg and your right arm is broken in three places," Heero read aloud from the clipboard left to him with an amused face.

Duo groaned out loud. This was going to be an extremely looooong vacation stay at this hospital.

~~~Five months later~~~
"Yo! Heero! I can move my left leg! Woooooooooooohoooooooooo!!!!!!! This is great! I can move it and -OWWWWWWW!!!!! God! That hurts like helllll!"
Heero blinked back at Duo as he stood by him, recording his progress on a clipboard.
"Duo, all this healing is going to take a while. I told you and yet, you regardlessly try to get up. I don't get it..."
Duo made a face at him. "Pardon me doc, but remember in the way back then? When I first met you and you were putting your OWN leg in place? That was worse and if I do recall, you didn't even flinch! It made this extremely loud and lovely CRA~~AACKING sound!"
Heero shook his head. "Because no one could be trusted back then and also, I have to make sure your bones in your leg is growing in the right direction..." he tapped the cast and looked at the x-rays he received earlier on. "Hm, Duo, wait another week, just in case. I don't want you waddling around and having you fall down, breaking something else. It'll make things worse than they already are."
Duo groaned as he heard his 'doctor's' words.
"Watta about my fractered ankle on my right leg, Heero?"
"Like I said, another week and you might be able to walk on both legs without crying out in agony...hopefully..."
"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh................!!!"
~~~Six months later~~~

Duo slowly made his way to the window in his room with his right arm in a cast. Eleven months Duo was cooped up in the hospital and he fell in love with Heero again. He had forgotton that Heero lived in L1 when he went on the vacation trip there. He wanted to forget him all over. Heero was a hopeless case when it came to love and he shifted his gaze towards the gardens. A creaking of the door made him turn around.

Dora slowly walked her way to the door of Duo's room and opened it to find him looking out the window.

"Ohayo gozaimasu, Duo. How are you doing on this fine day?" she closed the door behind her and walked the chair by his bed.

Duo walked towards her and sat on the bed, facing her and wincing slightly at the pain applied to his ribs.

"I'm doing fine, Dora. How about you?"

She grinned and replied back.

"I get out of the hospital in a couple days. I'm so happy! I'm walking again and I'm doing fine. Oh, and I came by to talk to you, of course."

Duo smiled and patted her hand.

"That's great! As for me, I'm stuck here with Heero and my ribs. I think he's being overly concerned about my ribs. We have the strangest arguments, like I said, about my ribs. I think they're healing alright, what do you think?" he pointed at his chest.

"It's because he cares too much, Duo. Just wondering, did you ever think about where you are going to go after you get out of the hospital?"

Her statement caught Duo offguard. 'He cares too much? Huh....?'

"Umm, well, I think I might go back to L2 to live. Why?"

"One thing, I think you should stay with Heero, or Dr. Yuy, whatever you wanna call him."

"Nani?!"

"Seriously! You like him, don't you?"

"Hey! How-wai-I mean...." left Duo speechless.

"One more thing, I forgot to tell you. I'm psychic. Don't worry, Dr. Yuy likes you, too. He doesn't realize it consciously, yet. Oh course, I could always tell him, but I don't think you'd like it, ne?"

"Damn right! Forgive my language, but don't say anything! I don't want him to hate me or anything... actually, the main reason I came to L1 in the first place is because I wanted to forget him..." Duo's eyes drifted out to the window in his room.

"Ohh... I see. You wanted to forget him, didn't you?"

"Yeah... I wanted to... but I couldn't... so I purposely went to a bar and.. well, got myself all riled up. I remember everything, the blood, the bones cracking, fists flying and the bartender calling for help. I let them hurt me to this condition... but, out of all the freaking places, Heero was at the hospital I was sent to and now, I've fallen for him again..." Duo sighed and fingered his braid that grew longer after the war.

Dora patted him on the back and she got an idea. "How about I draw you in the garden? And you let your hair down? It's very pretty and I haven't gotten anything or anyone good to draw. My hair is only up to my shoulders and I can never get it to grow longer. How about it?"

Duo reluctantly agreed. "Okay, let's go!"

They left a note in Duo's room just in case no one knew where they were and headed towards the gardens.

~~~~~
Heero walked into Duo's room to find it empty of the laughing boy. He checked around and found a note addressed to anyone looking for him.
To whom it concerns: Duo Maxwell has just left the building and is accompanied by the lovely Dora Pasrume to the garden in the back of the hospital. Don't worry, we won't jump the fence either, we're too crippled.' Duo & Dora.
At the end of the message was the signature of Duo scrawled awkwardly along with Dora's neat handwriting. Heero chuckled at the note and set it back down for the nurse. He walked out of the empty room and out into the hallway.
~~~~~

Duo and Dora laughed out loud as a sparrow and a blue jay tumbled about in the little bird fountain that stood next to a cherry tree. The water burbled merrily while the birds sqwauked about.

"How about you kinda lay on the grass in front of the bird fountain with one foot propped up so that your knee sticks up and make sure it's your right leg. Face me with your left side facing me so I can draw you, oh, and put your left arm to prop your head up. There! Oh, and don't forget to let your hair loose," Dora directed as Duo clumsily obeyed her instructions.

"Eh, this all right, Dora?" Duo somehow made everything look good, plus letting his hair loose.

"Oooooooooh.... you have pretty hair, Duo. It's all shimmery and wavy. I take it that you wash it a lot?" Dora quickly assembled a board and some paper to draw with.

"Yeah," Duo suddenly looked reflective in his pose. "I wash it a lot. Takes a long time and lots of shampoo. Times like those it makes you feel like you want someone else there to help you wash your hair with you in the shower. I wish that would happen you know."

Dora nodded and started humming. "Ok, stay still. You can breathe, move your eyes, close your eyes, move your mouth, but nothing else. I want this to turn out really good."

Duo grinned at her while he shrugged. "Ok, but try to be quick, my left arm is beginning to hurt."

~~~~~
Heero walked the down the long corridor with his lunch in a bag he carried with him. It was lunch break and he was already weary from his work. His care for Duo took its toll and his other patients. He was already a popular doctor among the doctors because of his youth and handsome features. Who could resist the cobalt eyed young man? No one. Except Dora... and Duo.
He walked out onto the back stairs of the hospital and sighed wearily. He just recently acquired his diploma and he was an official doctor. The work was stressful, but he welcomed the hard work with open arms. Constantly, he asked himself why he worked so much. He couldn't find an answer for that. He had answers for his patient's questions on their health, dozens of relatives milled around him to see their injured relatives and he always took care of them and gave out a diagnosis when needed.
But he worked still. At the rate he was going, he would've diagnosed himself as an overly stressed love sick puppy. But, hey, who said he was a psychiatrist and since when did he have romantic thoughts? Nahhh...??
Heero steadily stepped off the last step of the staircase and stared at the door that led into the garden. He heard giggling of a young man and a young woman. What were they talking about? It has been a while since he had socialized as a person, not as a doctor. He smiled at the thought and opened the door. He had plenty of time, two hours for lunch, not to mention he was one of the best doctors in the hospital.
~~~~~

Duo yawned and eyed Dora, who was sketching vigorously on her paper.

"Are you finished yet? I'm getting tired!"

"Maybe if you would be a little patient and show some concern for her talent," spoke a familiar voice.

Dora looked up from her almost complete sketch as she shifted her seating position across from Duo. She grinned at the sight. Heero was out of his doctor jacket and had his lunch with him in normal colony attire. Duo blinked and looked at Heero.

"Konnichiwa, Heero!! What brings ya out here doc?" he waved at him.

Heero smiled and his smile was now semi-rare, but it was cherished by anyone who saw it. "Taking my lunch break. Read your note and decided to be human and join you guys."

Dora chuckled and Heero settled himself next to Dora. He drew out a sandwich and began to watch Dora's skillful fingers finish up on the last outline of Duo's figure as he proceeded to eat.

"Hmm....." Dora tapped her chin with her pencil. "There's something missing in this sketch.... that's odd... I've never been this dissatisfied about any of my pictures...." she frowned and turned the sheet of paper around to look at in different angles.

Duo sighed exasperatedly. "Can I get up now!?? Ya know this isn't helping me!"

Dora quickly looked up. "Oops! Gomen ne, Duo! You can get up now, but I still can't figure out what's wrong with this picture....hmmmm...."

"Maybe I can help," suggested Heero and put his sandwich down. He held out his hand. "May I?"

"Be my guest!" Dora smiled triumphantly and placed the picture in his hands.

"Hmm....." Heero studied it while Duo made a face at Dora.

'What are you doooooooiiiing?!!!' Duo mouthed to her as he sat up.

'Helping you get a permanent boyfriend and maybe husband!' she mouthed back.

Duo made a dismayed face and ogled her. 'What, are you NUTS?!!' he mouthed.

'Nope! Completely sane right here! I'm tired of you guys tripping over each other!' she mouthed back with a smirk.

Duo glared at her and shook his head. He went back to his original sitting position and sighed while Dora grinned back in triumph.

Heero was smiling at the sketch he held. He had never seen Duo with his hair down and he glanced up to look at Duo, but he already had Dora braiding it back into the braid. He went back to examine the picture once more and found nothing wrong. What was wrong? Nothing it seems.

Dora noticed the confusion on Heero's face and her grin grew even wider. She pretended to do some of her own thinking as she snapped the black tie on Duo's braid. "I think I know what's wrong!" she chirped out loud.

Heero looked up and Dora picked up her pencil. "Can I have my picture back?"

"Sure," and returned it.

Duo grumbled under his breath while Heero resumed eating his sandwich next to Dora. She made a couple marks and fingered her pencil, looking a little agitated, but it was all in the acting. She smiled sweetly and tapped Heero's shoulder. He paused and swallowed the rest of the bite he just took.

"Yes?"

"Can you please sit next to Duo?"

Duo's eyes grew into saucers and froze. "Sure," was his answer and walked over to Duo and sat next to him, still eating his sandwich. "Hate to tell you this," Dora started, with her pencil outstreched. "But you can't move very much Dr. Yuy. Since you guys are friends, this might make the picture look better..."

"All right."

Everyone sat in silence as they listened to the faint scratching of her pencil for a couple minutes. Duo shuddered from the warm body heat Heero was giving off and closed his eyes to fight off his urges. Even in his condition, he wanted to jump him right there and then.

Heero felt strangely comfortable sitting next to Duo. For the past couple months in the hospital have been.. weird. He always enjoyed talking with Duo and Dora seemed to be... egging him to acknowledge his feelings for him? But enjoying a conversation with another guy was normal, right? Oh course! Then how come his heart would warm over and he could really relax when he was around Duo?

He sneaked another look at Duo. Duo's face looked away from him, as if he was trying to avoid him and had a hint of red streaked on his cheeks. He lifted a hand to his own cheek to see that his was warm as well. Does that mean I like him? he questioned himself. He remembered his conversation with Dora eleven months ago.

~Flashback~

His smile grew unknowingly as he thought about it and Dora's eyes curved up to match her grin.

"See? There IS someone special on your mind! I bet those clear violet eyes are waiting for you..." she hinted at him.

~End Flashback~

Maybe he liked him. He suddenly remembered all the patients he had attended to and how concerned their husband or wife was. Didn't he feel the same as those couples? He finished his sandwich and reached for his drink in his bag with a thoughtful face.

Dora's pencil stopped sketching and she paused to admire her picture. Instead of Duo laying down, he laying down with his head in Heero lap. 'How cute' thought Dora and called out to the other two.

"I finished it!"

Duo's flushed face looked back at Dora with slight irritation. Heero finished his drink and raised his eyebrows at her. She turned the picture around to show it to them. When they saw it, both felt their cheeks burn red and looked away from each other and Dora.

"What? It's bad? I don't think it is!" she pointed out. "See? I think it looks all right, Dr. Yuy is comforting Duo in the garden. By the way, did I mention you guys looked like a cute couple?" she stated innocently.

If burning red was bad enough, both turned a deep shade of scarlet red and Dora giggled at them.

'Look at them, they're like a guy and a girl being embarressed about liking each other. And now they're turning red when they find out they like each other... hmm.. now how do I patch this up?' she stood up with her picture.

"Here, Duo, I want you to have this. Keep it as a memoir of me please," she quickly jotted down a number in the corner of the portrait, signed it with her signature and dropped it into Duo's unsuspecting hands. "I need to start packing up my stuff for when I leave. See ya!" she waved and then, she was gone.

Heero and Duo sat next to each uncomfortably with their blushing faces. Holding the picture up, Duo stared at it. 'It's not so.. bad. I have to admit, I like it a lot, but I wonder what Heero thinks of it,' passed through his mind.

"Ano... Heero, eh, what do you think?"

Heero looked at the picture. 'Yeah, we do look like a good... couple...' the word echoed through his mind like a boom. He looked over at Duo who suddenly found a flower in the garden extremely interesting. 'I should give this a chance, I mean, I don't have anything to lose, do I? Dora would've wanted me to be happy and she always bothered me about it. Now that I think about it, Duo seems to like me, I think. Wonder what he'll think if I...?'

Heero turned to Duo and tapped his shoulder. Duo didn't look toward his direction.

"Hey, Duo, do you want to live at my place in L1? I wouldn't mind and I could use the company... And maybe we can have dinner at my place tonight..." he exaggerated the word tonight, making it sound suspiously like a date.

Duo faced him with wide eyes. "Are you.. asking.. me out on a... date?" he gulped.

"Hai."

"Okay!" Duo scooted over to Heero and gave him a hug that surprised Heero. He smiled and hugged him back, while he was doing that, he picked up Duo in his arms and stood up.

"Whoooaaaaaaaa! Hey, this wasn't stated in the deal!" Duo retorted, suddenly feeling airborne.

Heero shrugged and reached over to pick up his bag, but Duo intercepted it from him. "I'll take that, thank you very much!" Duo stuck his tongue out at him while grasping one arm around Heero's neck and one on the bag in his lap.

Heero smiled and carried him towards the door to the hospital while Duo chattered.

"Soo... when do you get off work?"

"In two hours. Depends. Why?"

"I mean, you're a doc and all, but are you allowed to take a patient out of the hospital?"

"Well, I went to your room today, but you were out here. I was going to tell you that you were free to go-"

"Sugoi! Oi! That's sooo gooooood! By the way, you off tomorrow?"

Heero raised an eyebrow. "Haiii...?"

Duo grinned like a chesire cat and clung to Heero. "I'm going to take you on your deal for staying at your place. Besides," he winked at him. "I'm gunna need some good old fashion loving..."

Heero smiled and stole a kiss from him as he opened the hospital door.

"You got it..."
