Where are you right now?
Sitting on a chair, in my studio at home. Iv got equipment on all 3 sides of me, and its kind of like star wars, a pile of computers and lots of wires, but its in a loft in a barn. We live in the country-just outside Bath which is fantastic. From the window I can see right across to the farm next door, all the way across Wiltshire
What are you wearing?
Baggy jeans from Gap a hooded dull grey top from Gap or Next I cant remember. Convenience clothes, but I have groovy shoes. Snakeskin. I used to be into clothes, I was a bit dapper in my day. But all that image disappears when you have kids. I want to be comfortable. IM a clothes slouch
When was the last time you were drunk?
Not for a while. Iv been laying off the sauce for a bit. Probably after THIS IS YOUR LIFE at the party. I wasn’t drunk, but I enjoyed myself, as you d. I was on Jack Daniels and Diet Coke. I didn’t have that many raving times without kids-that’s a lie, I probably did-but your priorities change
Whats the last thing you put in your mouth?
Toast with butter and a very thin slice of ham, for breakfast, something ive picked up from touring in Europe. On my really unhealthy white bread. Sheridans on a no wheat diet, so she’s got this rye bread. Id rather eat a bit of cork tiling. Shes on a serious health kick. She eats twice as much as I do and theres not a pound on her.
When did you last have a snog?
Oh God! You’ve got me there. Were like ships that pass in the night. By the time I get to bed, shes been asleep 2 hours. But it is romantic, theres plenty of snogging, don’t worry about that. Sherrys very pretty, very slim, with short blonde hair. Feisty and very focused. Shes wonderful her lips were meant to be snogged.
When did you last cry?
At Paulas funeral. Paula Yates. It was incredibly touching and it was hard not to. Iam quite emotional. Put me in front of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE and theres no stopping me. But I think if you’re a writer you’ve got to be able to touch the little nerves inside. You can exorcise a lot of ghosts. Iv always said, if I didn’t write songs, id have been an analyst.
