Antonio Prohias -- "The Creator of Spy Vs Spy"
It was May 1, 1960, just three days before Fidel Castro took over Cuba's free press, when artist Antonio Prohias fled to America flat broke. Once here, he came directly to MAD - and now, he is an internationally respected and beloved cartoonist. Although he past away and left his legacy to pass on this type of humor into the next millenium. We are proud to publish a part of his masterpiece, the "Spy vs Spy." The first Spy vs Spy was published on MAD #60, January 1961. Since then, the Spies have done battle more than 500 times and their spirited rivalry continues to surprise, deceive and revolt. Thanks to Bill Gaines and MAD for giving Tony the opportunity for showing his wonderful creation. Giving us enjoyment and laughter in viewing this type of humor.
