My name is Darrell and my wife's name is Kathy. We live on the Big Island of Hawai'i on the windward side of the island.
We receive roughly 130 inches of rain on our side of the island while the leeward side of the island (Kona) receives less than 10 inches of rain a year.
Our avg temp. in the summer is 80-85 degrees and 75-80 degrees in the winter.
We are the biggest island in the Hawaiian chain and all the other islands can fit into our island twice.
We have waterfalls everywhere and an erupting volcano, Kilauea , that has been erupting for 17 yrs and has added over 600 acres of new land to our island. I can see the glow of the vent. Pu'u O'o from my house at night and it is a spectacular view, especially when it is fountaining.
We are originally from the Chicago area, St. Charles to be exact for me and Oak Lawn for Kathy.
We have lived all over the US and really miss the mainland since we moved here over 5 years ago. You cant drive very far on an island, only in circles!
I am the Circulation Manager for the Hawai'i Tribune-Herald in Hilo and Kathy is a homemaker...or whatever the politically correct term is.
We have 2 cats named Piccolo and Gabriel. a dog named Snyder's Chitown Bear..a Lhasa Apso and a Cockatiel named Bud. We have way too many fish ( my swordtails keep breeding like the world is going to end tomorrow LOL. No Viagra needed for them LOL).
My hobbies are Playing golf, playing golf, and playing golf. I also like to fish, bowl, used to be a part time guide in Arkansas until it seemed like work, and make latch hook rugs. OH YEAH, I used to do standup comedy in Chicago.
I am usually in #Parentchat in the evenings as hawaii1,Lavaman or any other nic that I may think up-LOL. ( you never know, you may see Elvis)

This is a picture of Mauna Kea. It is a dormant
volcano that is near Hilo. There are several
observatories on top Mauna Kea. It is over 13,600
feet high and makes an excellent platform for
scientists to observe the stars. In the winter, it is
not unusual for the top of Mauna Kea to receive up to
4 feet of snow and wind chills to 75 degrees below
zero
